Noah's ark would be cool. Bonus is nobody would be making fun of me for having a life preserve.

Jesus performing a miracle would be good too.

Or Adam and Eve, show up with some footage of the Trump campaign and that should be enough to convince them to stay away from the tree of knowledge. So much for the time space continuum, meh.

I'd much rather have seen Luke destroying the Death Star than some dude's Ark, but that's just me....

When Skynet first became self aware.

What would it be?

For me it might be the crucifixion of Jesus or man's first discovery of fire. I wouold love to know where on this rock the exact spot where man first started a fire. That would be interesting. Think about it it. Fire makes the world go round. From power to automobiles to rockets. An amazing discovery.

I so love that movie. At the end where he's at the fork in the road it's like a symbolism of how he is at a crossroads in his life.

9/11, from a bit of a distance. I'd call the FBI at 7AM and try telling them that several commercial jets will be hijacked that day, and that two of them will be flown into the World Trade Center towers. I'm fairly certain that it would make absolutely no difference in the events that immediately unfold. Additionally, I'd call a couple of news stations and newspapers, telling them the same thing, and that the FBI had been informed. Should make for a more interesting after-story in the years to come.

Good ones. Man, I can think of a thousand musical events. Charlie Parker, Diz and Monk playing Minton's in 1943. The Basie band with Lester Young and Herschel Evans in the mid-30s. The Ellington band in their prime, with Johnny Hodges, Jimmy Blanton and Ben Webster, early 1940s.

* Building of the pyramids in Egypt

* When they erected Stonehenge or any of the other "mysterious" stone circles in GB.

* Sometimes just back into the Middle Ages, like 15th or so century in my home town (which is a town in Germany w/ many historic Middle Age-y sites, buildings etc.), just to see how normal, daily life was.

* Back when Jesus lived and taught (which I do think might be factual), to see how he actually really was and whether what he taught is in any way related to what the church teaches today. (Which I don't think it is)

* Way, way back in time to Blombos Cave that humans inhabited 100,000 years ago and then for tens of thousands of years

* Back there where they found the Venus von Willendorf to see what they really did with it, 28,000BC

* Back when they made and used the NAZCA lines to see what purpose they really had.

* Back about 100,000-200,000 years just to see whether a high-civilization existed where we know nothing about.

- Any random day in the Greek or Roman Empires (in Athens or Rome)

- Any random day during Middle Ages (say, 1200) in London

- When the epic space object that wiped out the dinos hit

That's what I'd like to see. Dinosaurs, billions of dinosaurs and whoosh! bang! a 150 million year reign as the dominant life form on Earth ends almost instantaneously.

Or the impact that created the moon. Much bigger boom, but no dinosaurs to see beforehand.

You realize, though, that it took about 30,000 years for the dinosaurs to die off after that, right?

it's the closest thing i can get short of actually being there

right now i have on my computer desk:

- a lamp from 1200 BC palestine
- a scarab from 1600 BC egypt
- a set of dice from 1st century AD rome

not to mention a big box of bronze, silver and gold coins ranging from 650 BC to 1500 AD

It's tough for me to say really, if you just watching and not able to interact.

I could think of a few off hand but not really nail one down in particular.

It wouldn't matter at all. Our time here is so infinitesimal that my witnessing any particular event in history wouldn't register at all in the scheme of cosmic significance so I'm not going to even waste any time pondering the question.

Wait how young are you? It was all over the tv.

my GF was in (from) a neighboring country at that time. Gorby sent his Russian tanks into her streets within a few weeks after that.

She didn't really want to be there then.

so...you basically want to put yourself in places where you will most likely die instantly...or slowly and painfully?

Neat. I was also wondering just how far back we could go, how much protection we'd be afforded, and how much we could accelerate time.

The eruption of the Big Bang singularity might be interesting.

Earth history did seem to be a bit dull....I was having a difficult time coming up with any one event I would have wanted to see, with the stipulation that changing the past was not allowed.

Another neat time to go would be when they went to the moon. Being able to actually watch that broadcast live would be quite surreal.

If he is an observer than can't interact, then he can't be harmed. Though the things he listed would take a long time to witness.

---------------

Personally, I would want to see the beginning of the universe, and maybe the dinosaurs.

Incredible, but also incredibly boring. Certainly not in the top 10,000 highlights of my life.
