If you discovered your unborn baby would have Down syndrome

If you found out early in the pregnancy that your baby would be born with Down syndrome, would you choose the option of abortion, or would you keep the child?

I was having a discussion about this the other day, and I think that is one of the hardest decisions parents would ever have to make. I've worked with people with Down syndrome, and so many are such kind, beautiful people. However, I've also seen how difficult it is for many of their parents and families. What are your thoughts, and what would you do in such an instance?

IMHO.....anyone who has not gone through a pregnancy should just not bother replying to this thread. No matter how objective you think you are, you don't know what it's really like.

I agree. I would abort, but i've never been in that situation so who knows.

I agree, I don't think there are tests that can be 100% sure, but they can identify those pregnancies at "high risk."

Geez, just assume that you know, without a shadow of a doubt, that the baby is 100% certain to have Down Syndrome.

I have a first cousin who has Down's, and while we all love her immensely...she'll have to be cared for by her parents or family for her entire life. Had to go to a special school. Gets a lot of pleasure out of life from the simple things, but I when I'm around her I can feel that she knows she's distinctly an outsider to the rest of us (big extended family).
