I would definitely turn it in - I would never feel safe with it lying around. The money would be easily traced every time you spent or deposited it, and I very much doubt you would want to get pinched with it in your possession.

If you try to deposit more than $5,000 in a bank at one time, they have to report it to the local police. (The theory being that if someone has that much cash, they're probably up to something) So I suppose you'd have to keep all that cash in your house. Without even getting into the morality/immorality of keeping it, I'd be paranoid just having it around. You'd have burglars lined up across the street waiting to rip you off.

If it was possibel to keep it without ever being caught, I would probably keep it. But if that is federal money, I'm pretty sure you would be found and prosecuted if you used any of the money and decided to keep it. This recently happend when someone found a bag of money that fell out of a armored car. The man decided to turn it in, but while they were investigating what happend to it, someone turned him in. They said they saw a male blah blah description, and turned him in. You would get caught really fast especially if it was a amount of money that big.

If you could keep it without ever getting caught, I sure would
