There's a property close by I'd like to own.

Same here, there's a huge piece of land less than a mile from here that would be perfect for a dream house. I'd buy that, build my dream home and dream garage/party building, and enjoy it.

I'm assuming you mean something like winning the lottery, so:

I'd pay off all the bills/mortgages of immediate family. If it was a super-huge lottery, maybe set them all up with million-dollar investment accounts...most aren't responsible enough to just give them the cash to do so. They'd be back in a year, broke.

There are a few no-kill animal shelters I'd like to see do better around here, so I'd helpe them.

Probably a few other places I'd like to help, too, but I'd just take my time and help others as much under the radar as possible. Anonymously, if I could.

But I'd take care of my own family first.

3) Give money to my relatives. They need it!

4) Buy a Bombardier Global 8000

5) Hire a chief, and a Chauffeur.

6) Find a really nice blonde haired green eyed woman, marry her and have her sign a prenup. LMAO!

7) Travel

8) Buy a place in the Caribbean or Belize.

9) Build a home to my design

10) Buy tons of radio gear and build an antenna farm since I'm into ham radio and scanners.

First thing would be to get a reputable accountant/accounting firm. Everything after that would be based off bouncing ideas around with them about investing / trusts / IRAs and shit. After all of that, I'd know how much I could afford to spend each month for xxxx years and be 100% secure that I wouldn't have to do anything ever again if I chose not to do so.

Then, hookers and blow time.

I would build a secret base on the dark side of the moon.
And while living there, point lasers at the lunar surface so they drill through the moon and appear that the moon is shooting at assholes on Earth.

Of course, the laser operators would be sharks in their 'swimsuits'.

You can always tell the silver spoon crowd. Their first move is never to buy or build anything, it's to "protect " their money.

My aunt and uncle hit it rich from a lawsuit a few years ago. They never told us what they received. My guess is 10 million.

At first, when they got the money it was a positive experience. They bought me a new car. They gave my parents $20k They were buying family members things, and they even donated money to charity. My uncle acquired Parkinson's disease, so they donated $10k. They gave the local fire department $8k so they could build a new mess hall.

Money was flowing. Life was good, but then it got bad. Really bad. Family members were arguing over who should get the next check. My uncle was using the money as leverage. He wanted people to kiss his ass. I believe that if you want to do something you should do it out of your heart, and not to seek favors. His mentality towards lending family members money was nasty. His attitude was I'm giving you this money. What am I going to get in return?

In the end my uncle became paranoid of everyone. He thought people were after his money. He was in his late 70's so maybe dementia played a part. Money tore our family apart. People place too much emphasis on money. They think that if they had money their lives are going to dramatically improve. In the short term having a lot of money is going to improve your life. What about long term? What happens when the new $80k car loses its luster, and the new $500k home that you bought loses it WOW factor. What then?

be careful of

Personally in order of importance and if the pot is big enough to support them. If it is relatively small only the first 5 or 6

Hire a reputable financial adviser

Finish out the accounting course plan I started but didn't complete and take the necessary classes to become a financial adviser.

Make sure my parents don't have to work anymore and send them on one or two trips around the world.

Start a trust fund for my siblings kid(s).

Retire and travel to Europe to see the places I missed out on the first couple of times I was there.

Donate to college funds that target specific groups.

Invest in renewable energy companies.

Buy a Radio station in LA, N.Y., and some large city in an inner state.

Buy (or destroy the public reputations of) some politicians.

And what happens when family and friends start hitting you up for money? What if they start to distrust you because you will not lend them $10k? What if your gf or wife says that their brother needs money, and gets mad at you because you will not lend it to them. Are you going to be able to handle the stress?

I don't think you guys realize the stress that comes with large sums of money. People get jealous. Good relationships become frayed and they eventually deteriorate.

I am a misanthrope by nature and can count on my hands my number of friends and my extended family is not large at all.

I would actually give "friends" some money and let them know that they should be thankful for the windfall but that's it.

I could deal.

If by some chance I felt lonely I'd just join a country club learn to play polo and find new "friends"

That's a fair statement. What happens when your family members start to resent you because you didn't buy your cousin Bobby a new car? Imagine if you bought Bobby a car and 2 years later he needs a new car? What if cousin Susan needs $20k so she can send her two kids to an expensive private school?

Also, you can't forget anyone in the family. You didn't give your third cousin money? You're a bad person!

I guarantee you that you will be the person that they come to for money. After a while you start to question people's motives. I should know. I watched my aunt write $6k in checks at one sitting because people needed money.

All in all I'd rather have the above problem than the same one as people who have to sleep in their cars or on the street. Just saying.

I agree. Being poor sucks! I will take all the issues that come with being rich.

I'm just saying it's not all roses.

I'd start getting $100 haircuts. Every two weeks. No more Supercuts or busting out the clippers for a DIY job cause I'm too cheap to get a real haircut from someone who knows what they're doing.

When I was in Korea my haircuts were $6. They were good haircuts, and I didn't have to tip.

I gave the girl a few won anyway.
