you can get some kind of franchise license no ?

Starbucks doesn't franchise out. Looks like they are corporate owned.

From their site -

"What we are all about Starbucks purchases and roasts high-quality whole bean coffees and sells them along with fresh, rich-brewed, Italian style espresso beverages, a variety of pastries and confections, and coffee-related accessories and equipment -- primarily through its company-operated retail stores. In addition to sales through its company-operated retail stores, Starbucks sells primarily whole bean coffees through a specialty sales group, a direct response business, supermarkets, and online at Starbucks.com. Additionally, Starbucks produces and sells bottled Frappuccino?coffee drink and a line of premium ice creams through its joint venture partnerships and offers a line of innovative premium teas produced by its wholly owned subsidiary, Tazo Tea Company. The Company's objective is to establish Starbucks as the most recognized and respected brand in the world.

To achieve this goal, the Company plans to continue to rapidly expand its retail operations, grow its specialty sales and other operations, and selectively pursue opportunities to leverage the Starbucks brand through the introduction of new products and the development of new distribution channels.

Starbucks are on a world domination quest.

A protected route, one that you can modify to work for 3 days a week for 12 hours then have the rest off to frolic.

Good enough income for me.

I'll open an adult novelty shop right across the street then.

I think for an extra $100k more I could get a Dunkin Donuts/Togo's/Baskin Robbins franchise. These things are pimp. Good donuts, good ice cream and some pretty good sandwiches (admittedly not as good as Quizno's.) The beautiful thing about this franchise is that they don't just peak at one time during the day and then sit idle. Folks can get coffee and donuts in the morning, lunch in the afternoon and then ice cream when its hot and hazy, as a dessert after dinner, or after a movie at the ciniplex next door. Its a beautiful thing.

Cold Stone Creamery is my second choice--one just opened up near my house (Wolfgang Puck Express is opening up next door...heard that's a good franchise too.)

I like Isla's idea, and i always thought about starting a special House or hospise or something along those lines for children and young people with cancer by large hospitals. that way, if they are from out of town, (or even from around town), they could come there with their parents after chemo or radiation, they could feel like they were "at home" but still have Drs and nurses taking care of them without the hospital setting.
it would be some place that would help the whole being. The kids could be with other kids, and the parents could talk with other parents and counsolors. Plus, i would make it very low cost (if any, if some people could not afford anything).
I would love to help children and their parents feel better when they are going through something as difficult as cancer.

I'd go with Snap-On Tools.

Now there's a good choice, mine too! I'd only have to start making 100 times more beer at a time now.

same here, but then again, those conicals they use in the micros make it easy to ramp up production.

Oh yes, the equipment makes the difference there, but I'm still pondering getting a 12.2 gallon conical for my homebrew

Heh. 500k is a FRACTION of what it costs to put up a KK. The cooking equipment alone is 7 digits.

Slum-lord. Those places take care of themselves!

OK, not really, but I'd probably try my hand at residential and commercial property. $500K would probably only get me started with a couple-few units, and they'd need to be some kind of bargain to begin with, and I'd need put in a lot of sweat-equity to get going, but I think I could do it.

I'll try to incorporate the use of firearms (with guns and bullets too) into the canadian armed forces. Might also try to get rid of those obsolete paddles for that canadian battleship and add a 200hp motor to it.
