Unless counting, a math degree will just keep you even.

Against the casino yes. But against other people, who might suck at math, you can get an advantage. There's more to it than just calculating the odds of course, but it's a start.

Had a roommate get a BS in Math and end up being a teacher. He always swore he would never do such a thing but didn't have anywhere else to go in the geographic region

I am staying away from engineering since I have never seen an engineer satisfied with their job if they are a U.S. citizen. Seems like people in other countries are more often satisfied since, I assume, actually get to do some REAL engineering work. Thinking more about it, there might be one guy that I know about who is happy to be an engineer but, he works for Intel. That doesn't really count, lol.

<-- Happy engineer, though they are generally underpaid and overruled on all important decisions by accountants, which ... well that's a long rant but that's a lot of the reason society is where it is now, everything has to constantly be cheaper, never better. The "wallmart mentality" tm drives me nuts.

Strangely enough, most of the math majors I know are also musicians. And grad students. The rest go into physics or business.

I was one course shy of a BS in Applied Math as a side effect of taking extra math classes for my BS in Computer Science, but I didn't want to stick around for an extra semester just to have a double major.

The numerical analysis and operations research classes were fun, I could see someone using an applied math degree to work with engineers, insurance companies, large corporations (planning), economists, etc. to implement, verify and optimize models.

Couldn't you just go part time to 1 extra class?

As much as I hate school, if I only had 1 class to get another degree I'd suck it up.

I would have kicked my insane abusive bitch of a girlfriend to the curb and found out what I like to do and get a job that makes me happy.

Unless counting, a math degree will just keep you even.

Half the battle is knowing just what to gamble in and where. The other day he was telling me how a shift in the odds on a basketball game allowed him to make a second bet that ensured a net profit regardless of how the game turned out.

I doubled in math and aerospace engineering.

I'm now in in grad school researching topics in computational fluid dynamics, which makes my skills interesting to anyone who cares about solving PDEs.

I started out of high school thinking I was going to pursue a degree in theoretical math and go on to be a crazy professor or something. Then I took analysis and realized I'm too dumb for that stuff, so I switched to applied lol
