I'm getting my licence soon and a car also. I don't know what kind of car I should get. I like the IS and G35 Coupe, but they're too expensive. If you had a maximum of $30,000 to spend on a car, what would you get?

EDIT: It has be available in automatic, my parents wont let me get a stick shift
EDIT2: If you dont have anything constructive to say, dont say it

If you still feel the same afterwards, get a 350Z.

Everytime someone talks about money, someone always recommends this book! I just bought it and so far it's pretty good. The info might be a little outdated.. it keeps saying to put all your money in investments and while that was certainly a good idea in 1996 (when it was published) now more people are stepping away from that

A $15,000 Camry/Accord and dump the rest into IRA's, Index Funds, and various other means of investing.

infiniti g35. rx-8 is kinda neat also. but you wanted an automatic, so thats why i didnt recommend the rx-8. a g35 can be had around the 31k mark.

For a first car that he'll likely wreck?

I'd go $5K/$25K.

You act as if he actually has $30,000. His parents are buying him a car.

I love the 350Z, but I can't live in a coupe. I'd have to go with an Acura TSX with 6 speed manual, navigation, rear spoiler, fog lights, metal trim kit, moonroof visor, and splash guards = 30521

You mentioned the G35 as being too expensive but it fits in your $30K limit if you skip all the options
