Oh, and where did I say that I was getting $30,000 to spend on a car? I asked what people would get with $30,000.

Not to nag or anything, but 20 hours isn't worth jack sh!t. How many hours at night? In the city? In rural areas? In snow? Rain? Fog? Rain/snow at night? Do you know to do if you have a blowout at 65 mph? Do you know what to do if you lose the rear end of the car? If you hit black ice in the middle of a corner?Originally posted by: Krk3561
I've been taking driving lessons too, I have at least 20 hrs driving experience just from them
20 hours isn't even out of the typical engine break-in period. And that's if the whole 20 hours were at 60 mph.

No, it sounds like a lot of us here KNOW better. Some of us are adults and have experiences that we could share about when we had a nice/fast car and were young.
Krk3561- My insurance on my Mustang is INSANE and I am 20 with a good many discounts and on my parents policy. That is why it is listed as an infrequently driven care right now.
I have those same discounts. And I'm 21. With a clean record. Guess what insurance is. $1400/year for a car that's 16 years old and only has 147 horsepower. Discounts or no it's still damn expensive.Originally posted by: Krk3561
I'm very respectful, and plus you dont know anything about me so how can you talk about me? My insurance will be lower too because I've taken the required hours of lessons for a discount and I have a 4.0 GPA (unweighted) which is another discount.
$30,000 today will be a LOT of money in 50 years when he retires. Pretend for a minute that he earns about 6% (very conservative estimate) over that time - It will be over $500K. I don't know about you, but $500K can buy a fast car and a WHOLE lot of fast girls.Originally posted by: RabidMongoose
Anyways, he's young...very young. The amount of fun he'll have in a nice car at 16 will probably outweigh any fun he'll have when he's older when spending the invested money.

While I wouldn't say 20 is much of an experienced adult (and I'm older than you), I agree with you that it would be stupid to blow that money on a $30k car. However, people saying that they're 'disgusted' with him, saying that he's leeching off of 'mommy and daddy', and how he'll have no respect are probably jealous.

I dont have to worry about ice, I live in South Florida . And can you still get blow outs with run-flats?
Uh, yes. You're aware of the difference between a blowout and a tire losing pressure, right? A blowout is a catastrophic tire failure. Either the tire disintigrates, or you hit something and tear a huge gash in the sidewall resulting in a sudden and total loss of pressure. Run flat tires are ONLY effective is there is NO sidewall damage. Just keep thinking the way you are though. You'll get your arse handed to you by fate in good time.Originally posted by: Krk3561

I've had an easy life too. My main issue is his conviction that he's "a good driver" despite the fact that he has practically zero experience and his inability to conceive of potential problems that will occur while he's driving. The kid thinks he's invincible.Originally posted by: weezergirl
I don't really get why everyone is bashing him...his parents worked hard to make a lot of money...at least enough to afford their first kid's car to be so nice! maybe it's chump change to them...and in that case he doens't have to worry about insurance..and maybe he doesn't have to worry about his future either if they make enough. sure, he may be spoiled but he's living the american dream. who here doesn't want to make enough money so they never have to worry about it. or worry about investing it for the future.
just cuz u didn't get the easy life don't hate on the people who do
