Uh, yes. You're aware of the difference between a blowout and a tire losing pressure, right? A blowout is a catastrophic tire failure. Either the tire disintigrates, or you hit something and tear a huge gash in the sidewall resulting in a sudden and total loss of pressure. Run flat tires are ONLY effective is there is NO sidewall damage. Just keep thinking the way you are though. You'll get your arse handed to you by fate in good time.

Wow, I never knew asking a simple question could result in so much agression.
The accident that happens is the accident that you do not think it possible. If you think you're invincible, you're gonna get screwed by life.

Counter-steer into the skid and keep your feet off the pedals. Very possible to save it. I've done it.

I've had an easy life too. My main issue is his conviction that he's "a good driver" despite the fact that he has practically zero experience and his inability to conceive of potential problems that will occur while he's driving. The kid thinks he's invincible.

What are talking about? Why are attacking me? I never said I'm invincible, and what have I said that makes you think I have had trouble conceiving potential problems that will occur while I'm driving?

$30,000 today will be a LOT of money in 50 years when he retires. Pretend for a minute that he earns about 6% (very conservative estimate) over that time - It will be over $500K. I don't know about you, but $500K can buy a fast car and a WHOLE lot of fast girls.
$552,604.63 to be precise.

ZV

Only problem with this plan is that he'll have to wait until 65 to spend it! By that time, the only thing the only cars that he'll be interested in are Buicks or a custom conversion van with a lift for his wheelchair!

As for the fast girls.... well.... maybe they'll have improved the formula for Viagra by then

Kid, if you think this is an attack, you're gonna have real problems when someone really comes after you.

You've never said "I'm invincible", but you think that 20 hours of training makes you "a good driver" when it's completely insignificant. You clearly imply that since you live in Florida that you'll never have to worry about ice/snow (blatantly wrong). You assumed that run flat tires would make you invulnerable to blow-outs. I'll bet you think that ABS will make your car stop shorter. (ABS lengthens stopping distances, though it improves control during the stop.)

Basically, you're young yet. It's not your fault. But it would be nice if you were more mature about this instead of making claims about your completely unproven driving abilities.

Steer into the skid and hope your tires find something to grip...at least that's what I was taught and have used. It's still scary as sh!t.

I know that i am good driver, I have PLENTY more than 20 hours of experience, that was just the time with a driving school, that teaches defensive driving, so I can learn how to prevent accidents. I know I lack the experience of an adult, I am not denying that. I never assumed that run flat tires would make you invulnerable to blow-outs, I just asked a simple question. Whats wrong with that. What motivates you to be so negative?

well if you get back to reality, id recommend getting something under 10k, new cars depreciate crazy fast.

I'd personally get a 300zx with ttops and all, thought they're b!tch to keep up. My current car is green 96 talon tsi awd thats im about to turn to black 97+ eclipse gsx
With little bit of work i can squeeze around 300hp out the turbo i4 which makes it enough for me ...and awd is just fun in the winter

As for the good driver thing, everyone assumes they're good drivers...I consider myself a skilled driver, i can launch my car like mad and my shifts are under 1 sec...but i drive aggresively and speed quite a bit so you make your own picture

Look kid, I'm not going to change your mind. I can see that. I'll leave you with some final thoughts though:

Unless you've got more than 10,000 miles under your belt with at least half of that in severe weather, you really have no basis for claiming to be a good driver.
"Driving schools", unless they involve track time, are pointless BS classes that fail to impart any significant driving skill upon the students.
Accept the fact that you'll get in an accident. Even if it's one that doesn't show up on your record or get reported to your insurance, you'll have some sort of an accident. Everyone does.

As I said before, it's not your fault that you're young yet.

G35 (LOADED that might top $30K though, so I would settle for a FULLY loaded, sat nav and all, 350Z).

If G35, Silver, if 350Z LeMans Sunset, both with black interior if at all possible (dunno on the G, but the Z I've heard you can tweak some nipples and get your way).

Well, I guess there are alot of factors involved. If you drive like I do...
Your screwed.

Yeah, black ice is horrid stuff. I've lost control twice going over 70. Fortunately the road was straight, so it was just ease off and be real gentle on the wheel. Once due to black ice, once due to rain (Hydroplaned)
I guess I was thinking a "sharp" corner (Like a city highway corner) not some gradual corner. Still, its more luck then skill if you loose it ona corner going any appreciable speed.

which is why your insurance company is going to give you a good driver discount.

get a used volvo, a t5 if you want something fast, or an old mercedes C for 10K, hold on to the rest of it and buy a nicer car a few years down the road

I gotta be honest....I was a smartass there. Can you tell I lost a ton of $ over the past 3 years investing?????

If I was 16 right now, I'd want a cool looking sports car, and you can bet I'd find a way to make my total price @ $29,987 or something like it. Since most of the thread is flamebait, I didn't read a lot of responses. But, there was a girl I went to school with who's father owned a car dealership (new), and by her senior year, she'd wrecked four cars.

I also worked at a miniture golf RESORT (movies, golf, video games)...... and I worked closely with the owner's daughter for a few months. Of course this is early 90s (after highschool for me)......but when she turned 17, he told her she could spend $25,000 on whatever she wanted. At first I was really sh!tty to her....but as soon as I saw I was jealous.....I was nice and would talk to her about it. Point being. She looked really hard and ended up settling on a convertible. And never even scratched it.

So after all that.....if I was 16, I'd get something Nice Looking but safe. The 2dr Honda Accords are nice....as well as the newer SUVs like the new model Explorers.

Good luck on finding the car you want, and stay safe.

Get a BMW 325 used for about 25k and spend a few thouasand to goto a good driving school, one that's mainly for stunt drivers, cops, etc, to really learn how to handle a car. Maybe that'd also convince the parents to let you have a stick.

Krk3561,

I think the point being the majority of teenagers that are in your position end up messing up the cars. For any of the following reasons:

1.) It's the "in" thing to have a brand-new car and give people rides etc
2.) Teenagers that get these gifts usually do not appreciate it as much as someone who has earned the money.
3.) Some teenagers think they are invincible and driving is no sweat hence they could wreck the car.
4.) These type of drivers might not take care of the car and treat it right. They take it for granted their parents will cover any type of problems.
5.) They don't know a damn thing about the car and abuse it.

Now you may not ever do any of the following or think that way. The majority of young drivers that have a brand-new car do. I hope you treat whatever car you get with care and dont hotdog in it.

Also are you taking this car off to college with you?

I wont bother to recommend any particular type of car since theres been a ton of good recommendations already.
