Not to nag or anything, but 20 hours isn't worth jack sh!t. How many hours at night? In the city? In rural areas? In snow? Rain? Fog? Rain/snow at night? Do you know to do if you have a blowout at 65 mph? Do you know what to do if you lose the rear end of the car? If you hit black ice in the middle of a corner?

20 hours isn't even out of the typical engine break-in period. And that's if the whole 20 hours were at 60 mph.

That's a good point, rbloedow. If mommy and daddy hand you the keys to a car at age sixteen, you're not going to have a whole lot of respect for it. Not that anyone is going to have a whole lot of respect for you either, but that's another story. Anyway, what do you think the insurance will be for a freakin' 16-year-old with a two-door sports car like the 350z? Hope mommy and daddy can pick that up too.

Sentra SE-R Spec V comes to mind as a nice one. And think about how happy your parents will be when you pick out a car < $20k.

Spec V only comes in stick, he could go with a SE-R, it has an auto available for it.

For some reason, I doubt his parents are hurting for cash.

I'm very respectful, and plus you dont know anything about me so how can you talk about me? My insurance will be lower too because I've taken the required hours of lessons for a discount and I have a 4.0 GPA (unweighted) which is another discount.

Sports car insurance is EXTREMELY expensive, even for good students, driver's ED discount, etc.

You do have the advantage in that you will undoubtedly be on your parents' policy. On your own, you could easily spend $6K+ per year for insurance on a $30K sports car.

I was quoted $10K per year for a 300ZX TT.

Oh yeah. Well, tell them you'll get a cheaper car if they let you get a stick....

Being respectful has nothing to do with it - you're unexperienced, and that's the issue. You don't realize that, and neither do your parents. Experience is everything, not to mention you'll have to get acclamated to this new car, you'll have to learn how it reacts in all situations, etc.

Sure you'll get a Good Student Discount, and a discount for the class, but it's still gonna be high. When I was 16, I had both dicounts also, and my insurance was still 900 bucks every 6 months (I was under my parents policy too).

I was in your same position except it was out of my own pocket and only wanted to spend ~$30K.

I ended up getting a 350Z Enthusiast 6spd.

But if you want auto, you can always get an Audi A4 1.8T.

Trust me, you're not paying for it. Any money you have has been leeched off of your parents, and being a kid, any job you find is not going to pay for the car payment, insurance, etc.

why don't you be like me and not rely on your parents to buy you anything and get a job to pay for your first car.....a frickin $1,500 1970 Volkswagen Bug. Awsome to work on an extremely easy. You feel good about yourself and they are cheap.

Who cares how he's getting the money? If his parents have enough money to buy him a $30k car, then more power to them.

I got my first brand new car when I was 17 ... came out to $27k on paper... even though I worked damn hard for it (7 days a week for a long while) ... I must admit I wish it wasn't brand new... because you're going to go through some "inexperienced" moments after you just get your license. My poor truck has been in a couple of rear-enders (to others) which were my fault because I thought tailgating was okay to do. Cost me a few grand to keep it looking good as new... but it was an expensive lesson on a new car. Anyway, that was me... and I won't be making the same mistake with my kids (sucks for them)... they're getting used cars first...

No, it sounds like a lot of us here KNOW better. Some of us are adults and have experiences that we could share about when we had a nice/fast car and were young.

Krk3561- My insurance on my Mustang is INSANE and I am 20 with a good many discounts and on my parents policy. That is why it is listed as an infrequently driven care right now.

Oh, and where did I say that I was getting $30,000 to spend on a car? I asked what people would get with $30,000.
