Some more information from me
Date rapes and pregnacy seem more a problem for the under 18 crowd because 100% of the time the family finds out...however there are a lot more date rapes and pregnacies by older than 18. I think the 18-26 year old age group is the highest.
Many of these women are those that were not permitted to date while living at home and therefore fail for all the tricks once they get out of home...it's really a question if you want to help you daugther grow into a woman or not deal with her sexuality at all.
Many kids who have open discussions at home regarding sex/drugs/etc grow up to be better adjusted adults and not sluts and druggies. It's the ones that usually are being defiant that push the extremes...however some children cannot self-manage themselves enough, but I think that again is the parent's fault.
Today's young woman will more than likely have her first real sexual experience whether it is oral sex or some form of intercourse by her first or second year of high school. Now locality and region of the world/country has a lot to do with those numbers of course. Here in West Palm Beach most of the 'popular' crowd (which are the good looking and trendy individuals) are having sex by 14-15 for the girl and around 15-17 for the guy.
There is another aspect of all this too, some of the times the 'kid' knows they don't fit in at school. Either because of looks, over bearing parents (other kids don't want to be around these types of parents), dress, etc and many of the restrictions placed on them just bring this to light. There was a girl that attempted suicide due to the fact her parents always told her she better not be making out or having sex with anyone...the fact was absolutely no one would even talk to her, yet alone kiss her...her parents instead of focusing on ways to get their daughter to fit in, instead concentrated on ways to alienate her. Perhaps, hearing everyday she better not be talking to boys reminded her that no boys would talk to her That's another inportant issue too, many teen suicides are caused by the parents (usually indirectly of course) from unrealistic demands/rules/restrictions/punishments.
When you give birth to either a male or female when they enter puberty they will have uncontrollable urges...now these don't need to be filled with 'sex', however things will be going on behind the scenes...it's part of life and as a parent you will need to acknowledge it is normal and acceptable, doing otherwise starts a huge problem of adjusting and socializing. Do not ever judge your child's sexuality or desire to have sex ever....educate them and let them know what you can accept and what you can't and then know you will either know about it or not, that is fair. However, never ever forbid them from doing anything, it is not within your power to do so....the most you can do is not accept and provide punishment. If you raise your children properly they will be well adjusted and known boundaries, what happens most of the time is kids are giving no direction and no guidance until their teens or first boyfriend/girlfriend and once sex becomes a potential; martial law is declared.
