If you had around $10k to spend on a used car, what would you choose?

I don't mind spending a little more, but thats about my budget. I don't want to get too specific other than that, as the last time I tried that, It narrowed down my selection quite too much, but I want it to be a fun car to drive.

What car would you suggest, and if you have the time, why?

EDIT: I want something that'll be fun to drive, I currently drive a 124hp Saturn SC2 auto, and even though its a good first car, its too boring.

I'd like something perferablly 2 doors, but if something is extremely nice, I'll settle for 4. 200+Hp is good, and must be available in manual transmissions. Aftermarket support is good, as I went autocrossing a few times, and it was very fun, so I'd like to try that out again. RWD is nice, but that really narrows down my selection.

if you already have a car that's decent that you can drive around for school or work or whatever, i see no reason in spending to get another car. especially if its just for something thats more fun to drive. cars are pretty much guaranteed to lose value the longer you own it. i think its much better to take the money and save towards down payment on a house or something.

of course, if you already own a house, have tons invested for your retirement, and can afford to throw money around, then ignore me. then again, if that was the case, i dont think 10k would be your budget

As usual when someone wants rwd and a coupe, I recommend a 240sx

You could get a very nice 5.0 Mustang 90-93. Big aftermarket, 200+ HP, RWD.

93-97 Prelude SR 160hp FWD
93-97 Ford Probe 164hp FWD
90-92 Eagle Talon TSi 195ish HP FWD or AWD
90ish Nissan 300ZX (Don't know more about these off hand)
90+ 240sx RWD
96+ Chevrolet Camaro V6 200HPish RWD
99+ Ford Mustang V6 200HPish RWD

Yeah, I was thinking about one. My brother told me they have a decent aftermarket and are a good platform to work on, but rare to find the later models in a manual transmission. Do you own one? How are they? I am kinda disappointed it only has 155hp though.

I really like the 1998-2002 V6 Accord Coupes. But I am afraid of how boring they might be

I would reccomend test driving anything that interests you. I think you'll find out which cars you prefer rather easily. I really like the Prelude, it's fun and very refined with Honda reliability. There's nothing wrong with an Accord it just isn't terribly sporty.

OK. Not much here sounds like a lot of fun to drive. If I were you I would get a classic 196X Mustang. Rear Wheel Drive, Manual Tranny. Over 200 horse? Easy. It can be ultra reliable due to the limited amount of electronics involved. (Upgrade to electronic ignition, though.) I would look for a V8 that has been restored. 10,000 bucks should do very well here. Also check out a 67 or 68 fastback. Very cool. Chicks will love it since it is not just another rice burner and guys will respect it since it is a classic muscle car.

I dorve a '64 1/2 when I was in college (not that long ago), and man, what a fun car. People would pull up and stare, honk and wave when they saw such a cool car.

Get a 1995 240sx for 6k, and use the other 4k for an engine swap etc, and a limited slip diff, and you are looking at over 220hp. And you have RWD, nearly perfect f/r balance, best styling of any car.. Not to mention the privelage of making fun of ricers with FWD.
