A lot of people thought they could do the same thing, that's why there are deaths every time we have a big fire.

3. Birth Certificate/passport/S.S. card/Important Documents and papers
4. Photo Albums
5. Laptops
*And of course the basics like wallet, keys, etc.

Id leave everything else. Thats what Property Insurance is for.

I find it kind of amusing some of the non serious answers that some of you folks posted. Guess it wouldn't hurt to remind you that some of us live in San Diego (me, I'm about 5 miles north of Miramar), and that some of us might actually have had to evacuate our homes this past few days, and that we may have lost all of our belongings (thankfully, I'm not one of those people, but one of my workmates did).

The topic spawned is an interesting one....it *should* make you think some.

My social security card, my wallet, and my car keys. Everything else can be replaced. Thank goodness for renter's insurance.

I would take enough clothes to live for a week, and then grab pictures and stuff that truly couldn't be replaced like my grandfather's watch and my uncle's WW2 sidearm.

I wouldn't count on insurance to replace anything... insurance companies exist to collect premiums not pay out benefits. I've had a fire and my insurance company ended up stiffing me. The thing I missed most were the pictures.

:Q i wouldn't have enought time to take everything that actually mattered to me....but if it HAD to be one thing, it would be the pictureframe that holds my favorite picture of me and an old friend, i still get upset just looking at it...but it holds a great memory that i have....

anyways, how could u guys say your HD and not your whole computer?? don't you guys screw on the HD to your case?? so it would take my like 1minute to unscrew it all both sides.

no i have one of those chieftech cases, the door opens in like a split secound and all drives are in a removable drive bay. pop out the whole thing and go. if you only have 10 minutes space is probably a factor so lugging a full tower case that can easily and cheeply be replaced is kinda dumb. be years worth of valuable data and importat contatct info is well worth the 30 secounds of time and minimal size.
