And if you can't drink it...it makes an acceptable paint remover.
Everclear is fine for mixing in things like punch...inexpensive way to "share" with lots of people...but by itself? No thanks.
OP, no hard liquor will be "smooth" for a first-time drinker. They will all have that "alcohol bite" that turns many people off. If you (or whoever) is interested in drinking...well, that's what mixed drinks are for. Coca-cola, 7-up/Sprite/Sierra Mist, tons of other "mixers" on the market, Then, wean yourself off the sweet flavorings and move to water or soda for a mixer with a few ice cubes...then work your way to drinking it either neat, or with an ice cube or two. GOOD whiskey/whisky is meant to be enjoyed neat...at room temperature, but it can be a bit much for new drinkers.
