You're gonna have to love moonshiners.

I'm into this show, but I don't understand a couple of things.

Why down south do people buy moonshine, instead of going to a liquor store? The show has already stated that they dilute it in the proofing barrel down to 80 proof, which is basically what you get even from the low shelf liquors. But it's made in the woods with swamp water. Is it really amazing tasting? One guy was mixing it with apple juice and fruit in a mason jar and still selling them
for $50 a jar.

Also, why does the government care about busting moonshiners, it can't be that much money being lost from tax revenue, not compared to drugs that are sold nationwide. Why even bother combating it? They spend all of this time and money to bust people that make 100k a year. It doesn't make sense to me.

When there were no liquor stores, there were moonshiners. It's pretty simply concept, supply/demand.

The south is also the buy bull belt, and there are still areas that do not have liquor stores. Baptists especially don't cotton to drinking, dancing and lots of other pleasures.

And if you buy from a moonshiner that is a 'craft' distiller, it is some mighty fine sippin' whiskey.

The show has to be 100% fake.

Yeah, I just don't get the concept of moonshine in general. Some aspects of it have to be true.

I guess it's possible they are misstating the facts like how much they proof it, I just don't see the point of the feds getting involved, or even buying the stuff.

I'm aware that most reality shows are fake, but saying the concept of moonshine is fake is ignorant. So some aspects have to be true, unless it doesn't exist at all

I guess it's possible the are misstating the facts like how much they proof it, but I would think moonshine actually exists.

Moonshine isn't fake, but you can't just make a reality show that depicts supposedly-illegal on-going activity. They're probably not producing/running actual "Moonshine" when they imply that they are. It's probably all legal, approved, taxed product.

...and I'm from GA. Never heard of anyone that drinks or produces it.

Exactly, I know some people from down south and they have never had it either. I only know 1 person that has drank it, and it was a guy I know that plays bass in a band that travels a lot down there. It doesn't seem commonplace.

Seriously - it makes no sense.

Banana Brandy at $100 a gallon to the wholesaler who will then "jar" it and sell it for even more?

I have a hard time anyone is getting the prices they quote on the show or they would not be living in shacks and driving beat up trucks/cars.

Unfiltered crap Vodka sells for $9/half gallon - pond water in the woods sells for $50 a half gallon?

Moonshiners.

Or it was imported from out of country.

Some alcohol was legit, allowing for limited "medical" use as well. ...now why does that seem familiar?

hah, America=living in the past, one day at a time.

The crap in liquor stores ain't strong enough for them. If you test their blood you find a little blood in their alcohol system

not to mention i would think if it was true it would be easy to find shut down.

Not to mention, I don't know if the camera people would be able to not be charged as accomplices, if they were all caught while filming.

That show makes me want to try the moonshine my brother got in backwoods Kentucky. Though I do not understand why anyone would buy it as anything more than a souvenir either.
