If you need more proof that snakes should be killed with fire

A Texas man thought he had bested a rattlesnake by decapitating it, but when he tried to pick up the slain serpent’s head, it bit him and released a potentially fatal dose of venom into his body.

His wife Jennifer Sutcliffe told local news station KIIITV that doctors said he might not survive, but he is now in recovery, thanks to 26 vials of antivenom. Trauma surgeon Michael Halpert told the news outlet the man’s kidney function is weak, but he is stable.

“The head end of a cut-up rattlesnake can continue to function, including the venom glands, for a long time afterward and, in fact, the other half continues to work. It’ll rise and rattle.”

As far as how long, she couldn’t say for sure. Boyer has heard of snakes moving 12 hours after being cut in two. And she’s even consulted on a case where someone was envenomated by a mummified snake head years after the reptile died.

Dude cut the damn things head off and it still bit him and damn near killed him. So your PSA for the day, kill them all with fire. It is the only way to be sure.

the first rule of snake decapitating is leave the head alone for a while.

For a while? Someone got fucked up by a freaking mummified snake! That is a really long ass "while".

My takeaway is if decapitation is your only option in the moment then you must still come back and kill it with fire.

My garage would have "accidentally" burned down and hopefully the propane tanks I keep in there would have created a BLEVE just to be on the safe side.

Maybe just leave the snake alone.

This.
So fucking this.
Educate yourselves people! Snakes are beneficial.
It reminds me of road rage. People never learn to leave well enough alone.
Then they either wind up dead or their life has changed (for the far worse) forever.

The female vic in Indonesia is quite rare. Retics can definitely overpower large animals no doubt. Dumb asses keep them as pets with no real knowledge of what they are capable of and are too lazy to keep a proper habitat to contain them.

Reminds me back in the day for those old enough to remember. Baby alligators used to be sold in pet stores. People would get tired of them because they are a pain in the ass to (properly) keep and bite real hard! So they flushed them. And in public sewers they grew large. Reports of plumbers getting chased (you can't outrun them!) were not uncommon. Stupid people do stupid things.

And yes, no one wants snakes in their home. (outside of a herp person!) So if a pest invades your home, have it removed by someone that handles them properly and removes them without harm to the snake or yourself.

Fuck all that noise. See this poor bastard. Just one snake in the toilet about to bite his sons dick right? Nope, 23 more of the fuckers found! Make sure the snakes know that you don't put up with that shit with a scorched earth policy! Hell I'd light napalm in that toilet just to be really sure if I was that guy.

Lighting snakes on fire could get you hit with animal cruelty charges:

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/latest-news/article213291589.html

A brown water snake was shading under a car at a Walmart. Then two people showed up with lighter fluid, police said.

The pair hit the snake, ran over part of it with a truck, spread the lighter fluid on the snake and then lit it ablaze until it died, Greenville CBS-TV affiliate WNCT reported of the May 16 encounter. The Walmart is in Richlands in southeastern North Carolina..

A viral video of the fire prompted an investigation by Onslow County Animal Services, according to The (Jacksonville) Daily News.

The video showed a type of blow torch being used on the snake, Spectrum News reported.

This week, 22-year-old Garen Whittington of Jacksonville, N.C., and 17-year-old Dustin Shearin of Trenton, N.C., were charged with animal cruelty, WNCT reported.

Not as stupid as people who believe in urban legends.

I thought everyone knew this?

I grew up in the south, where kids always antagonized venomous snakes for fun in the '80s and early '90s. It was always interesting to see a headless water moccasin body trying to strike blindly while the head/neck continues to writhe around. For the snake, it really sucks that death doesn't come quickly after decapitation.

I have an understanding with the snakes, if they don't bother me i don't bother them, i think that's the same one that was wrapped up in one of our evergreens last year...keeping the mice away. They might be endangered in the rest of the great lakes region but they are quite common here on our farm.

The good thing about living in the Northeast is you don't run into snakes very often. If you do, they're usually the harmless garden snakes.

looks a lot like an Eastern Fox snake. A very beneficial snake to have around.

Correct on both counts. And rare! I hope they didn't kill it. How is the summer treating Michigan KMFJD? If you have a garden and/or chickens that snake is def your buddy. Rat snakes = docile beneficial predators and no venom
