ATTENTION HEWLETT-PACKARD LASERJET PRINTER CUSTOMERS

If You Purchased or Otherwise Acquired in the United States or District of Columbia a Hewlett-Packard (?HP?) LaserJet printer of one of the following models: 5L, 6L, 1100 series, 3100, 3150

The purpose of this website is to inform you of a proposed settlement of class action Extensis Inc. v. Hewlett-Packard, Docket No. MID-L-6843-01. The goal of the Settlement is to provide relief to those persons who purchased certain HP LaserJet printers that might have been affected by a problem in the paper feed mechanism. Plaintiff alleges that these performance problems result from defectively designed separation pads which oxidize, degrade, and harden during the expected useful life of the unit, and often cause the printer to multifeed paper. If you purchased or acquired by gift a HP LaserJet printer with the model numbers identified above, you may be a member of the class and your rights will be affected by the legal proceedings in this action

I just sent all my paperwork in for my LJ1100. It was kind of a hassle, but I'm hoping to get back a $20 coupon towards HP printer purchases... I might be in the market for a new inkjet...

In most of the class action suits they sue for billions, take 50% and the everyone else gets $20.00

so.... except for suing McDonald's for decieving people into becoming obese, no they don't.

What an idiotic statement. If a company provides a defective product, they should have to pay to replace it.

It is kind of like the bill that Bush wants now, where the doctor has to fix what he screwed up, but there will be a cap on "Pain and Suffering", and all that crap. Believe it is $250,000, but don't quote me on that.

Npohnl, I do not agree with this practice, but as I said above, and the company will not replace it, sometimes legal action is necessary.

that is definitely a hot deal! We have 3 1100's here and we paid a lot of money to get them serviced. Hopefully accounting can find the invoices for them somewhere...

I don't own these craps myself, but I did kinda support them before, and they are really crappy printers.

I have a 4L, it's running like a champ. Why oh why did HP decide to skim on their products to save a couple of bucks. If the later L series were as reliable as the 4 generation I wouldn't give it a blink before deciding to buy another one.

Keep in mind that your $20 coupon is only good at HP-Online which is at least $50 higher than anyone else.

I'll be damned...I actually have one of these sitting in my closet back home in Texas. The reason we stopped using it was because there was a program with the paper feeding mechanism where it would actually put small holes throughout the middle of the paper as it was fed up. I'm gonna have to bookmark this and give it a try when I go back home. Thanks!

5L and 6L, unlike the 4L, is a top loader. It feeds the paper through the top of the printer, not using the standard desktop or industrial/office pickup rollers. What happens is it gets old and dries up/cracks.

The symptoms are it feeds multiple sheets of paper, not that it can't pick up paper.

I have a 6L on my desk..... thing would grab 2-3 pages often but didn't jam....but occasionally it would grab the whole stack....Jammm..... so eventually I had it serviced.

I couldn't believe how many parts the guy had to dissassemble to get to the $5 pad. He replaced some rollers and springs for no extra $$. Well, it still grabed pages....so the guy said "sorry, I won't charge ya, but you need to get a new printer". Well, I paid him anyway since he had been working on the damn thing for like an hour (company paid for it).

Anyways, I saw the pad-kits from HP and ordered a couple..... I used one, and the printer hasn't jammed in months.....sweet.

I sent away for a whole bunch of replacement pad kits for the other 6L and 1100 series printers.....similiar success.

Just a FYI, when the printer pushes through multiple pages it's really hard on the fuser assembly and will lead to premature failure.....well, that's what the printer tech said....

my $.02

you know what, i think HP makes some nice stuff and just because they didn't go and say give everyone $20 hp money without any lawyers involved does not mean they did not do anything about it. they have been providing replacement pads for quite some time. All it takes is you to email or call customer service to know this. i personally think that this is BS that hp has to offer $20 credit when that $20 credit does not fix anything but is just a scheme to put money in some lawyers pocket since the actual fix for this has always been free. 99.99% of all lawyers should be shot.
