If you still are using Quicktime.. uninstall it ASAP.

Basically, apple doesn't want to update it, so, uninstall it instead.

Computer systems running unsupported software are exposed to elevated cybersecurity dangers, such as increased risks of malicious attacks or electronic data loss. Exploitation of QuickTime for Windows vulnerabilities could allow remote attackers to take control of affected systems.

I uninstalled it and realplayer a long time ago because I got tired of updating them for security issues along with everything else.

I installed a video editor this week that said I might need quicktime if I used a certain file type. I thought I remembered smaller alternatives to quicktime and realplayer but have no idea if they are still being developed and if they are more secure.

That alone is pretty much why I'm not even sure either QT or RP have ever been installed on this (very old) computer at all, let alone reinstalled the last time or two I did a fresh OS reinstall. I seriously just can't remember the last time I came across a mov or rm file to make me even think about installing them...

I don't use or need quicktime but need qaac on occassion. If only there was a way to install/run qaac without apple application support.

Can't remember exactly when I dumped QT - but I think it was 5 or 6 years ago.

Check out the CLI version and you can plug it into Foobar (though I haven't gotten the switches right yet).

The QAAC encoder strings are built in to Foobar now. Just select your settings. Simple. I think you still have to download their Codec Installation pack though; not sure. I've been using it for 2 years now that way. FHG is built in too now I think.
