Do you not have a Best Buy near you. I'm not a fan of the store, but got my 8800gt there like many others. The shelf was full again today when I was there for my $30 overpayment refund.

I'm currently in the middle of a build and the only thing holding me back is the 8800GT stock & price. I decided to wait until the first week of December for the rumored G92 8800GTS. Hopefully by then, stock of all said cards will be plentiful & I can get a fast card for a decent price.

You can order the 8800gt on the BestBuy website for the 249 price if you are willing to wait up to 2 weeks for it to come in and ship...

Personally i think the 3870 is the better option b/c of dual slot cooling (heat expelling), quieter, cooler, and cheaper. The extra frames on the 8800GT are nice, but if you like to keep a cooler and quieter case, you avoid the 8800gt and get the 3870. Maybe it will get a few more FPS with mature drivers too..

just keep checking newegg for the 3870. ive seen it in stock 3 times over the last 3 days, but it doesnt last long.

best price at the moment though is 3870 @frys for 209 after a 20$ rebate.

...that's why I'm waiting for the G92 GTS to launch. Cooler case and no need to wait for better drivers to improve performance slightly.

I just built a new rig with a GT and it's the quietest one I've ever had. Don't know why people without the card think it's loud.
