I'd probably not tell anyone, things tend to change when people think you have lots of money, all of a sudden you'd have more "friends" come out of the woodwork etc. I'd just keep it to myself, keep living largely the same lifestyle (minus the bills), and go around giving money to those in real need.

I wouldn't tell really.....

I wouldn't tell my girlfriend, or any future ones, until marriage plans. Last thing I would need is some money grubbing whore out to try to get a piece of the cash.

I think that I would probably keep the news to my immediate family (meaning, my wife). I doubt we would tell anyone. I would like to think we would keep living much the same way, just without worrying about bills or finances too much.

My in-laws already beg us for money. I can't imagine how they'd behave if we were rich.

I'd probably tell people but also try to stay under the public radar as much as possible.

I wouldn't tell anyone for quite a while. I would keep it completely secret for at least a year. After that I would probably tell my family. Would never tell anyone else.

They'd probably figure it out when I rolled up in my GT500KR filled with hot swimsuit models.

While I'm high on the blow I'm sure I'll either brag about or leak it to the room filled hookers.

I'd tell my immediate family, but not extended. Pay off college, get a car, pay off the parents' mortgage. All subtle stuff that not many people will see. Then just use it quietly to live comfortably.

All my friends would know because I would treat them all to a really nice dinner every so often so I could brag about all the supermodels I banged since the last time i treated them to dinner.

no I'd probably tell them and then retire for the rest of my life.

I'd probably keep the knowledge to myself. Half of it would go straight to investments. 10% would go to churches, but spread out over time so as not to draw attention. 5% would go to charities. 10% would be a donation to my father's college.

25% would be to pay off all debts (mine and immediate family) + buy a home, car, etc. It'd be fun to design a home with all the latest technology on a sizable plot of land.

If you ever find yourself in the position of winning millions in the lottery, see a lawyer before claiming your prize. Whatever information you provide while claiming your prize is publicly available information. The lottery commission will release your name and city to the media. Then it doesn't matter what you wanted to do, the cat is out of the bag. All you can do is have your lawyer draw up some legal entity to claim the prize in a way that your name isn't attached to it.

I really only see two possibilities - either tell everyone and then move far away, or tell nobody and keep your life as it is. There is no way you can tell everyone and not expect your life to become hell. It's been proven over and over.

Yes, all those poor people who have won millions in the lottery had their lives become a living hell. Hell, everyone knows 95% of all lottery winners simply return the money to the state saying "thanks, but the copious quantities of free cash that will keep me fed, clothed, sheltered and comfortable without having to work another day for the rest of my life have really made my life a living hell; please take this back."

I'd tell my parents, sisters and brother, and a few close friends. Possible not immediately how much I'd won, as that would mean they'd try giving good advice before I could blow some money on useless stuff I want, but still.

The rest of my family and more distant friends I'd not tell anything, and I'd not immediately quit my job. Only one economic crash is needed to screw you over, no matter how much you have, so until I found a different steady form of income with little risk I'd make sure I still have a job. Even if it was just to keep boredom at bay.

does this hypothetical situation guarantee that there would be no way anyone would find out?

curious because if you won the lottery, people WILL KNOW

I would keep it to myself, at least until appropriate legal documents are drawn up ensuring that the cash is protected as much as possible. I don't envision any serious lifestyle changes, other than not necessarily living paycheck to paycheck, and maybe eating out a little bit more.

I wouldn't tell anyone, except for close family because they'd find out anyway.

I'd tell my parents and brother, and my best friend. My housemates would be told that I'd won a smaller amount- maybe $5,000 or so, to explain why I just bought several new computers. No one else would know, and I wouldn't buy anything crazy until after I graduated, in a few months. Most of it would be invested anyway, so there wouldn't be anything to explain away (except for the Porsche ).

I would try my hardest to not let anyone know directly.

But I'm sure people would notice, lol.
