If you work at home, do you have a hangout place?

I used to hang out at Starbucks and Barnes & Noble. They stopped being comfortable a while ago.

Now it's the local Dunkin Donuts, because it's close, and the guys there are really nice.

I tried the library, but the have all these events and the library is stupidly noisy and busy these days.

What's wrong about actually working in the house? I work from home a few days a month and actually enjoy the quiet time, the solitude! No wife, no kids, just me and TV and the computer, enjoying all of that in my favorite suit...

I find I actually end up doing more work when I work at home. Part of the reason is that I don't have to sit in traffic for 2 hours, but the other reason is "what can go wrong, does go wrong" the day i work from home.

It gets extremely tedious if you're an extrovert. I work from home 99% of the time, and while it has tons of advantages, it can get pretty lonely until the Mrs comes home.

I've often thought about hanging out at a bar or coffee shop, but I would hate to answer a business call with a bunch of restaurant noise in the background.

I work at home. I would describe working from Starbucks as "working remotely." The only downside to actually working at home is kids, dogs, cats, rabbits, etc. I would love to rent a separate office and work from there, but I wouldn't like working in a public place.

I firmly believe I could do my job better if a puppy was involved.

The downside of working from home is (well... Was) the endless Honey~Do list of shopping, chores, and home repairs which She Who Must Be Obeyed expected me to perform, since I didn't have to go to work. The predictable result was I couldn't get any work done. So I started commuting again.

ive never understood how temporarily relocating to somewhere else without all the comforts of home surrounded by strangers could be useful for working/studying.

When I work at home, I'm in a bedroom converted to an office.

When I'm not working, I don't go in there. The door is closed, so that there's a clear line between the two.

I work from home on days that no one needs me to be part of something that we are working on. If I have an assignment and I don't need any help or clarification I'll work from home. Usually get up at 8am instead of 6. Make my coffee, log in to work, and wait for our daily morning meetings.

Usually though I find myself getting stuff done really quickly when working from home. Then I'm sitting there with nothing to do.

the closest I've got to a hang out spot is a comfy leather chair in my home office. it's facing away from the computer, so if I need to take a 5 minute sanity break (about the equivalent of walking to the kitchen and making a cup of coffee if I were in the office), I just sit there and stare off into space (or read a few pages of whatever book I'm reading)

I feel like if one is going to be working from home, their significant other (and kids) need to understand that they're not just hanging out, they're working.

I've got the luxury of having a spare room to use as a home office, and it's generally understood that closed door = don't bother me. the most I could see myself getting away with in terms of housework would be maybe doing a load of laundry (since all that really involves is the 5 minutes it takes to throw in clothes and turn on the machine) or straightening up around the home office while waiting on a process to complete.

I work from home 20% of the days as well as any off hours/weekend work. I work from my home office. Donut shop might be a good alternative, but, I very much like having my keyboard and mouse and an extra monitor... stuff I'm not interested in lugging around.

i live in manhattan, so i have a list of coffee shops and other places that I have on rotation. usually i just bring my laptop and sit with a cup of coffee... but the problem is the internet consistency. i don't know why it's still hard to have good WIFI in year 2013, but it is.

No.

I prefer working from a desktop setup. (full size keyboard, mouse, and multiple monitors)

Similarly, working from my apartment allows me to get rid of most distractions. It also allows me to do whatever the fuck I want when I don't have work to do. "Oh, I don't have anything to do. Guess I'll go get some groceries from the store or play this game that I can't play on my work computer."

I find that working at home makes my day go super fast. Weather I have stuff to do or not, it sure makes it a breeze compared to being in the office, even with the same amount of work.

i work from home also and have a room set up for my office but also use it for personal use as well, it's like my office/computer room.

I don't seem to have any issues separating the 2. i also don't have room to be able to have 1 room exclusively as an office and not use it for anything else.

um...they make docking stations...unless you mean working at a starbucks or something, but that seems extremely weird to me (other than maybe as an emergency or to do something quick while away from home). seems it would be weird to the employees of said place also.

it does get lonely working at home but it's nice to no have to drive in traffic, deal with idiot co-workers, etc.
