Hi there,

THis post is totally for my own gain (and maybe yours too) but since it's the Off TOpic forum, that should be OK right? I'm looking for someone that works (or knows someone that works) at Best Buy in the Milwaukee, WI area that would like to buy something for me at your discount and I'll buy it from you and I'll tack on an extra $30 or so for your troubles. If you're interested, PM me.

Your $30 isn't worth most of those Best Buy employees jobs to a complete stranger!

I used to work at Best Buy and myself and others used to by things for people they knew all the time and then get reimbursed. There's no way anyoen can prove you sold the item. It's not like they do spot checks of your home. And you are allowed to buy them as gifts for family so there's any number of excuses you could use. THere's basically no chance anyone would get fired unless they were dumb and blabbed about what they did.

So if I go to your house and steal everything you have it's OK unless someone opens up their mouth and blabs and I get caught right?

American doesn't sell what I'm looking for. Only Sears and Best BUy do that I know of. I'm not picking about the store, just no need to pay 100% markup on a speaker.

Uh, what the hell does that have to do with anything. If I bought everything in my house and I sold everything to you, then yeah, it's OK. What does breaking into someone's house have to do with anything?

Only employees of Best Buy get that discount. You are asking an employee of Best Buy to cheat the company he is working for just so you can get a discount. That's stealing in my book and not tolerated in this forum.

I think you can do it legally, but BB managers have a dim view of the practice...

but then again BB managers are always a little dim... (rimshot)

The question is, does Best Buy sell at loss to its employees? Unlikely.

Employee cost is a % mark UP ( I thought it was 7$ but I don't remember). BB doesnt' sell at a cost to anyone unless it's some open box demo been sitting aroud forever item. Normally I don't care but I know that speakers get marked up clsoe to 100% which is retarded.

There, Best Buy is not losing money and actually gets a business, whereas; this "potential customer" can drive to NYC Chinatown. Then he bargains and pays cash to one of those independent electronic stores and avoided paying Uncle Sam tax.

Last time I checked, their discount wasn't that great. I live in Waukesha (near Milwaukee) and my sister used to work at the BB in Milwaukee (Mayfair). She didn't get all that great of discounts but would still get stuff for me. I'd recommend just paying for the stuff normally because you will have the origninal receipt and piece of mind. Go to the Hot Deals forum and see if there is a deal on what you are looking for. That would be your best bet.

The discount totally depends on what you buy. Some things you get $2 off a $300 item. SOme you get $150 off a $300 item. It all depends on what youa re looking at. Like I said, I know that the particular item I want retails for $200 but Emp Cost is only $110 or so. It it was $150 or up I wouldn't worry about it.
