Do what allot of people do buy them, hide the tags and then return'em.

However, you need to think about clothing you'll need for unexpected formal occasions, weddings, funerals, and when they drag you infront of the Judge you want to look your best.

Eventually you will need to grow up and dress like an adult.

First off, how the eff do you know how I dress? These aren't ratty jeans, they're relatively new Wranglers. The boots are Tony Lamas, not army boots. All in all I wear over $350 worth of clothing/shoes on a day to day basis. I dress like an adult all the time, so eff off.

If you want to be nothing more than a tech support bitch, then call off sick and whine on the boards about losing pay.

Actually, I won't lose pay. That's what paid time off is for. But if I did call in I wouldn't waste PTO, as I've gotten so much overtime in the last few weeks it would be pointless.

Jesus when I was 19, I already owned three suits...and not one pair of jeans.
But then again, I never wanted to be a tech support bitch.

Good for you, but being a tech support bitch happens to pay pretty damn well for an 18 year old. It also happens to give me quite a bit of experience. I honestly have no need for suits. Could I buy them? Sure. Do I want to? Hell no.

And for the rest of you, lay off. I don't think it's unreasonable to be upset about having to buy what could easily amount to $200 worth of clothes that I'll never wear. Goodwill is out of the question, I hate that place with a passion.

Well, to be fair, the "$200" figure is completely up to you. You could do it for a fraction of that if you wanted to, especially since you yourself said you'll never wear them again. I wouldn't spend $200 on something I'd only wear once, either.

go ahead and buy yourself a suit, shirt, and tie. (you can even skip the shirt if you have any polo-type shirts).
use your boots, the tony lamas are classy. personally, i think wearing the jeans would be fine too.

so, come monday, slip on your jeans, boots, shirt, tie and go to work w/ a smile.
being that this is your only suit, i'd recommend splurging and getting a really nice one

sh!t. just realized you don't even need to war a tie- so go ahead and skip it. the jeans and jacket will look nice by themselves.

Don't spend more than $100.

My resentment is not entirely over this, I've gotten the shaft from them repeatedly over the last few days. You haven't heard bellyaching BS yet.

I have plenty of decent shirts, just none that would go well with slacks. This is pretty typical of the shirts I wear. Probably half of my shirts have buttons, & 1/4 of them have collars. But they wouldn't go well with slacks.

Hey, do what the boss said, Goodwill. Heck, I was just at the one in town, and they had some really sweet looking suits for $20. Not a bad deal, considering some of the suits were easily $400 new, and had little or no wear on them.

Actually... hehe...

All my jeans are identical, and black. My Carhartt jacket is black, & my boots are black. Probably 1/2 of my shirts are black as well. So 1/2 the time I'm dressed all in black.

I'm quite well known for it, too. If people don't know who I am people just say "the guy who always wears black."

Go naked, and have a body artist paint the company reqirements on.
This may also be usefull for your next interview. Think about it, whatever career you choose can come out of a can!

just a thought

Go to Ross or marshall an get a Pair of Khakis. There will come a point where you made need Them. If your job does not intail you getting dirty or oily then it is perfectly acceptible for your boss to make this One-day request. Remember that appearence is the first thing people notice, people in suits typically think that if you dress professional you are professional. THat is not the case however if you don't dress up than you didn't do as you were told and there is no way around that. I got A job that intailed going onsite and was required to wear tie. Went to Men's wherehouse and got three slacks, three dress shirts, and three ties for under $200. You can buy Khakis at Ross or Marshalls or perhaps even Mervin's(no Idea how to spell) for around $15-20. Go spend it or call in. Are your morals against Slacks?

I don't like dressing UP however there are times that it it is called for.

IMHO theyshould pay for it...for me whenever i needed to meet a dress code, i'd find a way for the company to pay for it...whether it be the company or the client that they sending me out to...if your boss said "goodwill" then so be it...go to the salvation army or sumthin......he can't expect you to dish out good cash just to dress up for these goons...

YES. I'm that same guy, man. All my clothes are black. Even my socks and underwear. I love wearing all black. It makes everything very simple. And lets face it: every cool fictional character wears all black. Go watch The Matrix, Blade, Charlies Angels.... Black is always the way to go.

And don't leave out the shoes. Nothing is dorkier than a guy dressed up in all black with a brilliant pair of bright white tennis shoes. Yuck.

I love Carhartt's too. They're an Alaskan staple.

Hey Viper, that is too funny. Our company is having a Shareholder's meeting with Company reps and the Owner visiting here at STL and we have the same dress code for next week as well.

No, you can't make your company pay for your clothing. You can write it off your taxes, but you would need quite a few more deductions to get past the standard. You should be able to find a nice pair of slacks & a shirt for $40. A decent pair of shoes will be at least $60. Hit the outlets. And be sure to show your mom. I'm sure it will bring a smile to her face.
