Back several years ago, my girlfriend bought an AST Computer. It wasn't a bad little machine for her purposes, but the modem died fairly soon after purchase. A guy from TRW came out with tools in hand and a new modem -- replaced it, and all was well! That was rather neat.

Im living up here in the middle of Canada in a small village of 220,000 people, and they (Dell) sent a technician within 24/hours of talking to them.

They also had to send the guy back four days later, cause the mobo he installed the first time was bad (I think).

Had no problems with them at all.

I had some IBM servers before and I had techs out within hours. As for Dell, I had some Precision 610 workstations go bad and they had EDS techs out within a day.. even though they couldn't do anything positive to fix the situation.

Many moons ago when I was a sophomore in college (95-96) my father bought me a Packard Bell (I know it sucks, no need to tell me!) Anyway, it supposedly came with a one year on site warranty. About 6 months into ownership, the power supply died. This was during my hell year in college where, because of psycho roommates in the dorm, I did not sleep for more than 2 hours a night. If I was lucky. I was in week 3 of a 5 week bout with the flu. I was terribly sick, I had a horribly high fever and was told not to get out of bed. I also had almost completely lost my voice. So anyway, when the power supply died, I called the customer service number, which I believe was a long distance number in UTAH! I sat onhold for something like 6 or 8 hours, TWICE before I could get a hold of someone. Once I did get to talk to a live person, the first thing that snot nosed punk said was "Ma'am, you need to speak up or I'll have to hang up." I proceeded to inform him that I was seriously ill and could not speak much louder than I was already speaking. I explained the problem and he told me that I'd have to take the computer to TOLEDO to be fixed!! I calmly informed him that my computer came with an on-site warranty. He told me that that only applied to people in larger cities. That's when I demanded to speak to someone higher up, and after a bit of talking in which I complained about the phone bill I was gonna get, how sick I was, and their warranty, an exteremly nice repair guy was sent out the next morning.

Of course, nowadays I could have fixed it myself, but I was hours away from family and dangit, it was under warranty.

About 5 years ago a nec tech came to my house to replace a cd drive that went bad. Just the other day I had yet another floppy drive go bad on a dell machine, how so many users can break floppies and keyboards I'll never know but they insisted on having the tech come out since it was under the service plan, thought it would just be easier to send me the thing to put in since it ended up costing us more having me wait at some remote location than just going to buy one myself.

Mine has on site cause I built it myself

My friend got a dell with on site, they came out once...
He called them to come out again because his pc was performing illegal actions all the time freezing up and stuff and they told him the usual tech support stuff to check his problems and then they told him to put in his rescue disk and format his drive, and that they wouldnt come out to fix it...

well it does look like most of you got your on site service even if some of you had to be persistent to get it done in some cases
