So, your mom wants to build you a $500k home. It's going to have a mini movie theater installed. Master bedroom for you. Pretty much a modern home. One door garage. The only thing...

Mom wants to move in. This is the dilemma my friend faces. Does he get his dream home built, because their is no way in hell that he's affording a new $500k home.

Is mom going to have the sense to put her bedroom somewhere that she doesn't have to hear sex noise?

Don't know. But, you bring up a good point. I believe she might be upstairs, and he'll have his master bedroom w/ shower, walking closet downstairs. It still might be an issue.

How does a 38 year old guy tell a gf that he just met that he still lives with mom? Imagine bringing home a girl for the night.

"Oh, that's my MOM!"
"Hey mom. this is Suzy. We are going to go get wild."
"Just ignore those noises coming from the bedroom."

Ehh.. Sounds creepy, no?

Depends, is mom old/frail enough to pitch it as taking care of her versus her being in a rest home?

Nope. Nope. Nope. Not worth it. She would hold it over their head constantly and just the offer alone makes her sound like one of those hovering parents. Nope. Nope. Nope.

Depends where he is in life. Desperate with no prospects of a good career or family - then yes.

I have a house and pay a decent amount for mortgage + taxes + insurance + upkeep ...
If I didnt have to pay that, it would free me to invest a LOT more for retirement.

It sounds like a no brainer.

Depends on the parent in question, but 90% of the time I'd say heck to the no don't do it. Like, my parents are pretty chill, so if I ever had to build an in-law suite, I'd do it no sweat, but the majority of people's parents I know would not be a good fit for that type of situation.

But dang, $500k in today's economy...rh71 is right, it depends on where he is in life. Does he have personal debt? Does he have a good-paying job with a good future ahead of him & good earning potential? Not having to pay a mortgage or rent check every month would be a pretty life-changing thing for most people.

Also, is it like a "pick from a plan" custom house, or full-on custom? Because I have a pretty useful resource thread on better home-building materials over here:

http://www.portvapes.co.uk/?id=Latest-exam-1Z0-876-Dumps&exid=threads/modern-home-materials-technologies-discussion-thread.2409421/

A few of my favorite building materials:

1. Quad-lock ICF blocks, floors, and ceilings
2. PTG impact-resistant energy-efficient windows & doors
3. Tesla solar roof tiles
4. Eldorado interior & exterior stone & brick veneer

Some of my favorite household products:

1. Dekton countertop (basically Quartz 2.0)
2. BLUM Metabox soft-close steel drawers (kitchen, bathroom, hallways, etc.)
3. Sharkbite EvoPEX plumbing
4. Kerdi waterproofing system from Schluter (for bathrooms...100% waterproof)

He can build a truly amazing home for $500k if he's careful about the materials selection!

This is really Mom building a house for herself and wants Sonny to live with her.

One door garage. The only thing...

The house is already designed? No room in the garage for the pickup truck, sports car and the two motorcycles? Yeah, sounds like it's Mom's house. Let me guess whose car will be in that garage.

Nope. My parents were debating moving and semi-seriously asked if I wanted to sell my house so we could pool our money together and build a huge house. No way.

It sounds tempting, but then you've gotta live with your parent(s) again. I have a decent job and live alone for a reason.

1bed/1bath and I'm good as long as I have a garage for my tools. I don't like people in my space. Kid graduates in 2019, I might need a 30 yarder but...gtfo.

Nah. She's in perfect health.

I think he's very fortunate

TBH, he doesn't have much going on in his life. Works in the summer, takes off for the winter and collects unemployment. Wants to put out movies. He's an inspiring movie producer. Has been for many years, so I don't know where he is with that goal. No kids, wife. Just him.

Would be a tough call but think it would be doable in a way that it's reasonable and you still have your personal space. A 500k home could be build big enough where both can still more or less have independence. Basically build it like two full size houses attached to each other. She lives in one and I live in the other. There would be a door to go visit each other.

I would suggest that you ask Shorty...but it’s not like he ever brought home a girl that wasn’t On a tape/dvd...

If it's his home to do with as he pleases, sure. If he has to live in the basement, no. I guess it depends on his age as well.
