Mutant alien slugs have invaded our planet. I stepped outside this morning and as I was stepping to the sidewalk I saw this....thing. It was about 4" long and looked like it wanted to devour my soul.

I once had a prof who was 'a bit weird'. Actually, 'a bit' isn't really correct - he was truly eccentric. Anyway, he was of a fair old age, and really seemed a bit past it. His lectures were hopeless. But one thing that all the students noticed was an unusual habit - he always had a large jug of water on the lectern. And would periodically stop to pour a glass, then down it, before carrying on with the lecture. By the end, he would always have finished the jug.

One day we decided to prank him. So, while a bunch of students went down to interrupt him and ask detailed questions - another group swapped the jug with one they had brought and filled with a fifth of vodka. Then everyone went back to their seats and the lecture began.

After a few minutes - he poured himself a glass of vodka. Downed it. And then carried on with the lecture. Meanwhile, there were puzzled faces all around. The lecture carried on. And by the end the jug was dry. As if nothing had happened.

And then everyone realised.

As for this thing...I've done years and years of camping, hiking, backpacking, kayaking, fishing, swiming ect all over the midwest and I've never seen anything like this before.

WTF? It's just a slug. Go out at night and they are everywhere. Actually, that was my experience on East coast. Here in San Diego, it's slugs AND large snails (can't walk on a sidewalk without looking or you will be tracking in crunched up snails and slugs).

OK, I'll admit that I haven't seen such large slugs since I was much younger (they were really common then) and only the snails seem large in San Diego. It's the fat 1"+ diameter slugs that I used to salt as a kid.

Up in WA slugs 6+ inches long and at least an 1" in diameter are common after a rain...which happens like 250 days out of the year lol.
