They are not ALL bunk. For example, the Salvation Army pays the
biggest wigs in the organization what is basically a pittance...All
the money goes back to the people they're trying to help.

On the other hand, organizations like the United Way and The
Red Cross have HUGE HUGE HUGE overhead to pay all the bloated
salaries of the tons of bureaucratic executives. You can live high
on the hog as a big wig at one of these places...

There are a lot of ripoff "charities" out there, but there are a few
legitimate ones, as well. A few.

More than 80% of your donation will just go to the "administrative expense" of those so-called non-profit organizations. Your donation will just feed those high salaries a$$holes who run the "charities". Certainly Red Cross is the only exception.

Red Cross raised approximately $700,000,000 from the disaster. It spent about $150,000,000 on relief efforts. They may give out more in the future. So what are they doing with the other $550,000,000? Add about 50 Mil for other of their relief efforts. $500,000,000. Only 28% went back into the cause. Their claim is that only about $200 mil actually said it was for the disaster. The other monies were for the red cross in general. I feel we should see exactly where the money goes realtime.

The new york firefighters fund actually is paying out about 99% of its proceeds to the families of firefighters and cops who died.

People just don't think. I mean really. Surely 255 people died. This is a tragic event, but what good is blood to dead people. Show me one injured person from the plane crash that needs a blood transfusion and then maybe, I'll change my tune. Just giving blood because there was a plane crash is asinine. These idiots just had to destroy tons of blood just because they over collected. They haven't distributed even close to what they collected for the wtc tragedy. I'm just saying, give it a freaking rest.

The houses that are burning are almost certainly insured. If you want to do something to help, take one of these families into your home or put them up in a hotel or something. Just don't give any more blood or money to the Redcross. They can stick it. It's freaking ridiculous.

The fact that the red cross sold a bunch of the blood to hospitals rather than giving it to them is disappointing.

The fact that the red cross destroyed about 20% of the blood donated because it was in surplus, is disappointing,
especially since they kept accepting donations of blood.

I hope it's not a terrorist attack and just an accident. It sucks any way you look at it though. I feel for the victums and their families.

As for donations, the way that these various charities have been operating lately, I don't know that I'd be giving to them any time soon. I'd rather help the families directly in some way instead of lining the pockets of others.

This is a terrible thing to happen, don't get me wrong, but I don't come to this forum for the latest news; I goto MSNBC. This is one of those places where you should be able to escape stuff like that. After sept. 11th, 90% of the sites I visited recounted what happened. I would rather have read something else at the time to get my mind off of it.

Don't donate to the red cross. They see a tragedy and they try to take advantage of it. People donated millions of dollars to the red cross to help with the wtc tragedy. Guess what the red cross is keeping 40 to 50% of the donated money for "future tragedys". Yeah BS.
