I'll be more understanding of them if they'd make even a small attempt to be more understanding of the manual (though in some cases I take pity because many of these non-English companies have no desire to hire anyone who speaks more than a smidgen of English to translate the freakin things).

It's not so much an age thing, because there are 60+ year old folks who design DSPs, do programming (not only COBOL), etc. It's more of a "I can't be bothered to learn more about this than absolutely necessary to get myself in trouble," resulting in screwed up computers and a crapload of frustration for them and me.

3) Stop saying "I'm not very computer illiterate!" That statement would mean you ARE computer literate, and it also shows that you are just PLAIN ILLITERATE.

4) If I ask you to type the @ symbol, DON'T TYPE "The at symbol". We end up sounding like an Abbott & Costello routine trying to troubleshoot that :|

5) Stop saying "I'm no computer genius." You know what? I'M NOT EITHER! I didn't write UNIX, nor did I invent the microprocessor. You know all I did? I READ AND UNDERSTOOD THE FREAKING INSTRUCTIONS, SO NOW I GET THE JOY OF READING YOU THE INSTRUCTIONS OVER THE PHONE BECAUSE IT'S EASIER FOR YOU TO DIAL THE FREAKIN' SUPPORT LINE ON YOUR SPEED DIAL THAN TO READ TWO SENTENCES ON YOUR SCREEN!!!!
aww, that is just plain sad. you have no patience with teh seniors. one day you are going to be an old fart and hopefully the younger generation will forgive your quirks.

EGG-Xactly!!! I'm supporting people that are making $100,000 more a year than I am, should have retired 10 years ago, and call to yell at me because they can't figure out to do when it says "Username and/or password rejected" when they try to dial into the network. I had one this morning that was threatening my job because "our server was down for 3 days now". This jerk is trying to dial in from Hawaii while on vacation. I put him on speakerphone and the idiot had his PC set to "never dial a connection". so it wouldn't autodial when he clicked on his VPN icon. There's a big freaking checkbox right next to the phone number that says in capitol letters "DO NOT DIAL A CONNECTION". My boss was listening an basically pwned him, but still. I'd shoot myself if I had to do this every day. I can't wait until the normal staff gets back from vacation :|
