I'd just llike to remind you all that a nvidia geforce 6800 GTO doesnt necessary mean you are gettinga GTO. I have 3 systems that way and when they came they are vanilla 6800

GTO cost more than vanilla by about ~150 bucks if you go by dell's normal configurator for a dimension 8400 or xps, and it's a pain in the neck trying to get dell overseas support to understand the difference between the two when you ask for a refund/replacement/return

But I did score one for 780 with the following: 8400/3.4/1gb533/250sata/dvdrom/cdrw/gto (the one in my sig)

good luck guys

edit: i dont have all the acknowledgement with me. i think the HMGA11 is the part number for vanilla 6800 inside 8400 and CAP is what it says on the 4700 vanilla 6800

i should've known not to order those 4700 knowing the 4700 cannot and does not come with the GTO cards

i will go back to work to look at my acknowledgement letters tomorrow and confirm

Here is what it says when I look at my order processing page

"Module,Card,Graphic,GForce, 6800,HMGA11 "

Is it the GTO or not I dunno...

a way to tell is if it takes up 2 slots and if it has dual dvi its a GTO. if it has dvi/vga/svideo in one slot its a vanilla. but by then its too late you already have the system

Just to confirm that refurbs are awesome, I picked this up for $450 pack in November:

P4 2.8ghz
512 PC2700 DDR Ram
160Gig HD
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Windows XP home

I sold off my old computer and added another 512 megs of RAM, and the computer runs awesome. Works great for video and music work, plus I am playin some DOOM 3 right now on its high setting

When you get it, call Dell and complain, make them exchange the vanilla for the GTO advertised.

sorry to confirm this, but here is what it says on my 8400 that came with a vanilla 6800:

Module,Card,Graphic,GForce,6800,HMGA11

and bamacre, its not as easy as calling and complain. you almost always get overseas support who has no idea what the difference is. I called them up asking to either replace or let me return, they gave me crap like "you did get a 6800" i was like "no there are 2 cards, 6800 and 6800GTO, and GTO is worth a lot more" they like "sorry hold on i'm not authorized to do that since the card alone cost $800 bucks" (800 LOL!) then they switch you back to the main line and its back to square one.

if this happened to you, email dell support, they seem to be MUCH more knowledgeable and helpful than those damn phone supports at India or wherever the hell the call center is now.

I had a similar problem.

Advertised a 9800 Pro. And it was confirmed as Radeon mobile, or something.

I spent HOURS on the phone to India. They were absolutely no help at all--even rude.

The kept asking, "Why do you want to speak with a supervisor?" And wouldn't connect me to one.

When it showed up, I refused delivery.

Now, when I get refurbs, I always put the name of an American sales associate that helped me once. So, if I have a problem, I can just call this guy directly.

.

Don't refuse delivery or else you could wait 2 months for a refund!

It is better to receive it and get a return authorization number. The reason is that when you refuse delivery, the computer gets shipped back to the distribution center which is not Dell.
By the time the DC shippes to Dell, it could take weeks. Also, much greater possibility of a screw up.

the supervisor is still in India! I had to call again and another India dude was nicer and connected me to the resolution department, which is in America I think. He quickly helped me get the RMA and get it over with since I told them I was forwarded from India multiple times and given up and that's why I passed their 14 day rule.

Refurb's are not 21 days, they are 14, be careful.

But then UPS or DHL has yet to show up, I got the RMA numbers, but no one comes and pick them up. My father is royally pissed off to stay at home waiting for someone that doesn't come...

Cancel your order and get a new one configured with affiliate coupon. You will save over 100$, and get a bigger hard drive (well its 7200 not 10k so thats a wash I guess). Still you can save 100$ and not have to deal with whatever the hassle is with a Refurbished...

see
http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=1502601&enterthread=y

You will save 100$
