When it showed up, I refused delivery.

Now, when I get refurbs, I always put the name of an American sales associate that helped me once. So, if I have a problem, I can just call this guy directly.

Just to confirm that refurbs are awesome, I picked this up for $450 pack in November:

P4 2.8ghz
512 PC2700 DDR Ram
160Gig HD
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Windows XP home

What was the part# for the 9800 Pro please??

In the Cart my order showed up as "128MB DDR ATI RADEON 9800 PRO M3584"
but the final order is only showing "Module,Card,Graphic,128MB, R350,FAN "

Customer service is quite horrible. They make me wait 30-40 minutes average and they are clueless about these issues too!! :frown:

Oh, they're clueless all right--especially the Indian ones.

R350 is indeed the 9800 Pro. It is the older rev/stepping. And can't be unlocked (upgraded to an XT) by changing its firmware like you can on some of the 9800 pros.

But, the R350 is what I have and it works great in my Dell system (no overclocking).

I just ordered a Dimension 4700 last night.
It's got a P4 2.8, 512MB RAM, 160GB SATA, 128M Radeon X300SE (I know it's not the good one), and XP Home for $429 (this at least has a 1 year warranty too)....$468 shipped with TN tax.

:c00l; I can finally game on something with a P4 other than my laptop.

so the only way to tell a 3.4 from a 3.4EE (800fsb) is through a third party app like sisoft sandra?

If it's vanilla and not a GTO as specified, e-mail support and get it replaced.

I use the E173FP (16ms--no DVI) and it's wonderful. I picked mine up for $139 w/ purchase of a refurb. but they can be had for around $200.

There's a new coupon out: DCQW0Q26KPNW1S 10% off

Still a few deals too. I've got the following in my cart for $341 shipped to my door:

Dimension 4600 Micro-Tower: Pentium 4 Processor at 2.8GHz w/800MHz front side bus/ HT Technology Integrated Audio/ Video/NIC P3834
Microsoft Windows XP Home N7965
256 MB DDR SDRAM 400MHz (2 DIMMs) M0871
No Floppy Drive R0473
40 GB EIDE Hard Drive (7200 RPM) R1366
128MB DDR ATI RADEON 9800 PRO M3584
48X Max Variable CD ROM Drive

I'd say this is on the warm side for a system w/ a 9800 Pro

Price out the parts at newegg first. See what building one would cost. Also check the similar price in a new dell. Get a feel for whats a good deal. Figure out what kinda parts you'd want ideally. Check out both ATI and nvidia for graphics cards, etc. Then when you see a good one in dell outlet, jump on it.

Edit: I shoulda edited my prev post instead of posting again. Sry.

Re: 6800 GTO

I just bought a system from the outlet section. I spent any amount of time trying to work out why what I had read about the GTO didn't match the DVI connection I had - now I know - it's not a GTO. Happily the invoice makes it entirely clear that I should have got a GTO.

They've been emailed - and I'll insist on a replacement card rather than schlepping the PC back to god knows where.

Thanks/

Ouch !

Prices have gone way up on the Dell refurbished site, about doubled from yesterday at
this time, anybody know when they will be lowered back to a good deal again ?

Edit

I just checked again and the prices have come back down, not quite as good as when you
check late at night but a lot better !

Edit again

I don`t see any good deals now at Dell refurbished site but SC420 server is $229 at outrageous
enterprise deals, so-so deal.

Thanks beany for the info, I could'nt believe the prices they were asking for refurbished computers
for several hours, more then you could configure a new one for, looks like they are back to more
normal pricing ........... I hope for a long time.
