If you've not heard of lavasoft's Ad-Aware you need to get it

I just scanned my two month old work machine and found 98 items. I wish god would kill these people; they're worse than telemarketers because they hide. Fvck them. God-damned spyware!

Please. I just scanned two computers at work for these dopes that I work with and found 500 items EACH! :Q

They were getting pop-ups with no apps or browser even open! I had to run Ad-Aware 6 and Spybot to get rid of everything.


Of course they claim the never installed anything or clicked yes to any prompts.

Before I saw your post I was just going to suggest I recommend using both. They compliment each other because I have found somethings Ad-Aware discovered but not SpyBot and vice versa. Both are excellent programs and best of all they are FREE!

98 isn't bad, I've seen hundreds on some machines. Yikes. My SIL keeps downloading stuff like Gator and Bonzi buddy.

Why doesn't anyone ever write useful viruses to screw spyware planters like report fake data or overload their servers...

The problem is many many applications ask "would you like a desktop icon?" "would you like a startup icon?" "should we add a link to your favorites?" "do you wish to install additional programs and 3rd third party content?"

I always answer no to everything and half the time all this BS is installed and icons everywhere. AIM is the worst offender. One application I don't use anymore installed Gator....I tried to remove it from Add/Remove SW in Control Panel and it said 'by removing Gator, whatever program must be removed first' so I removed both....

f'ing Gator was still installed it only removed the Add/Remove entry :|
