IGN gives Uncharted 3 a perfect score

I need to go ahead and buy this one from Kmart this week. They're giving a $20 coupon towards future purchases if you buy it. And since I bought Batman from them I have a $30 one already. Uncharted 2 for $29.99 AND $20? Yes, please.

Then the most difficult part will be focusing on finishing Batman while Uncharted is staring me in the face.

I have both, so I will jump back and forth. That way I don't blow through one and will feel like I am getting my money worth.

Anyway, I noticed something that sort of bothers me but it's so weird that I am questioning myself. What's up with the graphics in Uncharted 3? I know it's supposed to be slightly cartoony since Drake is like Indiana Jones but I was surprised at how bad it is. I don't mean like Super Mario Bros. bad but certainly not 2011 good.

Mind you, I haven't played any game on the PS3 for probably 8 months. The last game I played on there at length was Uncharted 2 and Infamous (1). I have been playing mostly Black Ops on the 360 and most currently BF3 on the PC. I admit going to BF3 (PC) to a console is an unfair comparison but I'd like to think I haven't been so far removed from consoles to forget what they looked like.

I couldn't believe how bad Uncharted 3 looks. Is that on purpose (style?) or are console/PS3 graphics that terrible?

Have you not played the other two Uncharted games? My understanding is that #3 is the best graphics of the bunch and I remember #2 as being one of the best I've played in terms of console-level graphics.

my buddy last night said he kept seeing artifacts in uncharted 3 showing up when they shouldn't, and he even thinks it may be his TV going out.

Beev my wife was on the couch last night as I started chapter 6, using the laptop and kept glancing up to watch the game. she is far from a gamer but she was pretty sucked into the story telling aspect of the game and how amazing it looked.

BOTH of the previous games had supernatural enemies. If you didn't expect it in this game then like i said, you're f-ing stupid.

I've played Uncharted 2 but it was at least a year ago. I am certain there's nothing wrong with my TV or PS3. I think maybe it's just the cartoony stylized graphics of the game. I came from playing BF3 on PC the day before so I think that's why it was such a stark contrast to me.

I haven't really played many PS3 games lately but something seems off about the graphics in U3. I see lots of artifacts or whatever along the floor seams of buildings and stuff like that. I see shiny spots all over the place as well in different areas, makes me think there's treasure there.

I also seem to notice the edges of characters and stuff more too, seems a lot less smooth. Seems that I didn't notice this as much in U2.

When it's not doing it, the graphics are nice but it may just be that I am so used to much nicer graphics on PC.

I haven't seen any issues in terms of artifacting or clipping in the graphics. I just think overall it looks bad. I think it's probably just that i haven't been on the PS3 for a while and am used to PC graphics like pontifex.

I saw a few things that looked bad (

), but for the most part, it looks pretty good. Obviously not as good as BF3 on my PC, but I still think it looks nice.

I enjoyed 1 and 2 so much I'd probably have a blast playing them again. And add another one who's wife really enjoys watching me play it. Picked it up on Amazon today and they were cool enough to automatically apply a 20 dollar coupon from when I ordered Gears 3.

I've read similar things -- that Uncharted are fun games to watch. The girlfriend really enjoyed watching me play God of War 3 -- maybe she'll dig Uncharted. We'll find out.

just played "horde" mode with 2 other people for 45 mins and it was a blast. we all thought we had only played for like 20-25 mins, couldn't believe it was 45.

then tried out 2 vs matches w/one of the buddies and we actually had a pretty good time. definitely going to put more time into multi to see how it plays out. didnt play any single player tonight.

I know I really don't have to tell you pur, but if he is getting artifacts while playing it is usually due to overheating or a failing video card. You should tell him to try an aftermarket cooling solution and hopefully it will solve the issue or at least keep his console alive a little longer. And yeah, Gears' single player isn't overwhelming at all...lol

though i really enjoyed part 2, i'm not too interested in playing the Tombraideresque style gameplay again. i like FPS style too much, but i'm sure this will be a great game, i'm just not excited about it.

i agree about aiming in this game though in general. it feels way too loose, especially online multiplayer. against the AI it isn't as much of a concern because the AI is stupid and I also don't think they can run as fast as human controlled characters. the ps3 controller sucking for games requiring dual analog does not help either.

i think this game would control MUCH better with the 360 controller as a whole.

Imo, the 360 (edit: controller, not the whole system...) is just flat out bad. Then again, I loved the classic Xbox controllers

the positioning of the left analog on the ps3 controller is the worst part about it. it isn't placed in the natural position where your thumbs are resting, yet it is the primary control device you are using. they have the dpad in the primary position when the analog should be there.

the ps3 controller is 100% identical to the psx controller design, which came out in the 90's. it's over 15 years later and they STILL use the same controller design, except they tacked on 2 analog sticks in odd positions and some triggers. the ergonomics of the ps3 controller in general is terrible. don't get me started on the L2/R2 triggers ... worst designed triggers ever.

every major console to come out after the psx has done it right - dreamcast, gamecube, xbox, and xbox360.

I definitely agree about the L2 and R2 triggers. I can't understand how that particular design is still in use. They should have fixed them long ago.

I guess I don't feel the same about the left stick, though. Both sticks work great to me. Maybe next gen they will swap the dpad/left stick and the buttons/right stick
