IIS 5.0 on Windows 2000 only.

IIS 6.0 on Windows Server 2003 only.

No switching without switching the OS.

Lovely how not only is the web browser tied to the OS, but now the web server is too.

My believe is that it would be a waste of time for MS developers to try and make IIS 6.0 "work" on an older platform, one that is four years old.

IIS 6.0 is substantially more secure (as is the OS that goes along with it) and was totally re-written, so back-tracking and trying to make it work on an older OS seems silly.

Fundamental design difference between Linux/BSD and Windows. On Windows, nothing is modular, on Linux/BSD, everything is. That's because it's written by many different people with not too much organization between programs (like, say, Samba and Apache). There are actually good technical arguments for both styles, and, yes, business arguments as well. But it comes down to, if you don't like it, don't use it (and I know you don't, Nothinman )

The fact that a web server requires a specific OS is silly, even moreso when you limit yourself to subsets of a specific OS.
