Same here. I have a small army of hops, robot chickens, and marksmen. My navy is really lacking though
Navy is king, if they can't lock the port down, their army is useless. It also gives you the ability to lock their ports down which can be lethal if you go for their wine colonies and can hold them for days at a time.

Naval battles are as complex as land so you need almost every ship type.

1: Support units

  • All of the support unit`s auxiliary units are put in reserve.
  • The effects of all auxiliary units also work from the reserve.
  • Can contain an unlimited amount of units.
  • The support units do not take part in the combat action.
2: Carrier Ship

  • Can only contain units from the 'Carrier Ship' class.
  • The weakest units are positioned first.
  • Can contain an unlimited amount of units.
  • Attack sequence: First Strike, Long-range battle line, Front Line, Flank
3: First Strike

  • Can only contain units from the 'First Strike' class.
  • The strongest units are positioned first.
  • Attack sequence: Front Line, Flank
4: Long-range battle line

  • Can only contain units from the 'Long-Range Battleship' class.
  • The strongest units are positioned first.
  • Attack sequence: Front Line, Flank, Long-range battle line
5: Front Line

  • Is initially only occupied by heavy battleships. If no heavy battleships are available, the following units will take their place:
    • Light Battleships
    • Long-Range Battleships that do not have any munition left
  • The weakest units are positioned first.
  • Attack sequence: Front Line, Long-range battle line, First Strike, Flank
6: Flank

  • Can only contain units from the 'Light Battleship' class.
  • The strongest units are positioned first.
  • Attack sequence: Flank, Long-range battle line, First Strike, Front Line
7: Carrier Ship Evasion

  • Can only contain units from the 'Carrier Ship Evasion' class.
  • The strongest units are positioned first.
  • Attack sequence: Carrier Ship, Carrier Ship Evasion
8: Reserves

  • The reserve takes all the units that do not fit on the battlefield.
Basically:
1. Tenders are your cooks+docs. If you don't have these your units will withdraw after a few rounds
2. Carriers attack first strike.
3-5. Heavy battleships/ranged/first strike attack the front line.
6. Light battleships attack their counter part, if there are no present they flank the front line and attack 4-5.
7. Carrier ship evasion ships attack carriers->other evasion ships.

So every type is useful, in the battle above his front line was getting hit with lines 3-5 while my front line was taking damage from 3,5. His 5th line was getting hit by 2 and 6 while the rest of my navy was untouched. My carrier evasion ships were useless since he didn't have carriers or other evasion ships.

Land battles follow the exact same sequence of attacks but have different unit names.

Steam rams>flames.
Mortars>cats>ballista but mortars are slow. I prefer cats, but mortars are better if time isn't a big factor (defense).
Rockets>diving boats but rockets have limited ammo (and hit like a truck). I mostly use diving boats but there's a time and place for rockets (if you can end combat quickly).

It's different, but I like it better because you no longer could just blindly build ships. You have to put some effort into knowing what to build and how to balance your fleet.

first go to island display of the target town, select town, then select from the drop down where your troop is located. M_Asgard is my guess :awe:

What I did was make sure M_Asgard is my active town, then I used show World button to zoom out and then typed in the coordinates in the little coordinate box near the bottom center of one of my towns. I clicked on a island that had a green flag and then click on a green town that had the Deploy Troops button. It took several tries before I found one I could deploy troops to.I hit the Deploy Troops button and it says "You deploy troops from M_Asgard to Nefingrad" Gas X in about 8 hours will see my troop in his town.

I wonder if HFX2 is going to get annoyed that I've been completely ignoring these "training" exercises.

I doubt they will notice you not participating but it's really good experience. I learned a lot about combat by joining battles larger than I could field myself.

These training exercises are annoying because he is so slow to respond. My spearman was homesick by the time he responded to excercise 1, so I recalled him. Then he wanted us to post a screenie of his town.

Phoenix - talk your diplomat into letting me in HFX without the examination of my towns

That examination is like the #1 reason the training alliance exists. They are really good standards too, what are you lacking?

Yeah, they haven't done anything about larger battles, or any battles at all. It's been deploying a single spearman to towns.

Oh that's odd, we had several large scale battles when they were doing training. It was against inactives with tons of loot+armies.

Here's a CR from the HFX leader, it's not really a fair fight but gives you an idea what -one- person can bring to a battle.

All of my walls and hideouts are the same level as my town hall, except my newest one.

The wall requirement is a bit outdated, wall levels less than town level used to reduce the walls effectiveness. Now they are static based on level (number of wall units/attack/armor). Once you get lvl 20+ walls that's good enough.

Hideouts however do have a reduced effect if they are smaller than town level.

I don't even have hideouts. Kind of a waste of space for now when I am just building up, but will definitely build them once I am ready to have troops.

And yes, those training exercises are a little bit annoying.
