For some people, including myself, this board is a social circle. For some it's in addition to real life social groups, to others, it's the only thing they have. When you've been on a specific site for a couple years you can really get to know the members there and *gasp* ACTUALLY MAKE FRIENDS. Fancy the concept.

There are many people on this board that I could give a two bit sh!t about, but on the other hand, there are many members of this board that I do consider a friend, and would easily take a few minutes out of my otherwise meaningless life and help them out if I could.

I would do the same for anyone else that I considered a friend in that mythical thing some like to call "the real world".

For many people the internet IS a real world. We have names and faces. You have shared interests and ideas. Many of us share conversations outside of a bulletin board in more chatworthy venues. This is no different than sharing a phone conversation with someone.

Condemning someone for forming a friendship, or looking for help from their friends on an online community is both insensitive and weak. Some may come here for entertainment, others may come here for that and more. Just because you are too insecure to find friends on the internet, don't sh!t on someone else for doing it.

Yet another example... while gopunk's actions are commendable, he doesn't have the time, training or experience to be handling cases like these.

If someone keeps bringing issues like these to a board like this, they're going to get armchair psychologist answers, not true clinical help. It's a danger.

That's easy to say when you don't know the victim. Remember spiderman when he did nothing...the dude killed his uncle. Doing nothing eventually bites you in the rear. What if your wife or girlfriend is in trouble and passerbys say it's not my job to help her. Anyone that is critical of Gopunks actions can suck my left cahone.
Although I disagree with the mods removing the post I can understand it. Not only from a liability standpoint(sue-crazy mofo's), but you might also give other people bad ideas...
As for him posting his message in a public forum..it was mean't to be seen by his friends and it looks like his friends saw it and notified the proper authorities.

Was this over the girl thing. I think I remember him mentioning that he had met his soul mate over the net and they couldn't be together. She was drifting away on him as well because of the futility of never being able to meet. I think he mentioned maybe going there over the summer even without his parents consent. If this is what it was about..my advice is love is a powerful thing, but if you lose it...life goes on. You feel like crap for awhile, but you eventually get over it. At 15 you have all these hormones, puberty and everything else going on..I'm not saying she wasn't the "1", but if it was mean't to be..it was mean't to be. You 2 will eventually hook up.

Hang in there guy...if you need any advice I've been down that road before, pm me...
