I agree that people have a right to protect themselves if they feel vulnerable, but are you really suggesting that ANYTHING should be allowed in pursuit of someone protecting themselves?

Body armor is passive, it just sits there getting smelly. A tank is over the line, not because it is armored but because it will crush the public roads.

Perfect. There is no way that body armor is threatening unless accompanied by a firearm, and body armor cannot in any way be used offensively by itself (unless you swing it like a club, but then a sledgehammer would be far more effective).

I have no problem with prohibition against criminals owning body armor, but private citizens should be allowed to have whatever body armor they wish to own.
