Actually there have been some major inland earthquakes along faults that are nowhere near plate boundaries. I think there was a huge one near Kansas a hundred years ago or more.

Man i was just coming in to post this. Leaned up close to the bathroom mirror to floss and nearly lost my balance. I've had a long day, dead tired, thought it was just me. Then checked USGS. Crazy.

That was an earthquake? It woke me up also. My bed was rocking for maybe 20-30 seconds and it wasn't me! I was wondering what that was.

This was in Arlington Heights, Illinois.

Looking at the USGS history for this are they range from 1.3 to 2.6 so this 4.3 was very unusual. I'am at work. It woke my wife up 9 miles downtown Chicago and a co-worker in Elgin said things rattled for close to a minute there.

Yeah, I'm in Elgin. No idea how long it went on for, but it was enough to wake me out of 3 hours of sleep.


They keep saying we're overdue for a major one, but living in an older house with a questionable foundation, I could do without.

I found out why we had an earthquake. Apparently it's a warning from God about a Palestinian nation.

I was at work during it, driving around. Unfortunately, I didn't feel it but all my coworkers and friends/family that were asleep did. Our dispatch center got tons of calls about it too. It was a little chaotic for that half hour.
