If nothing else, yah Horray, Nick1985 will be finally be paying his fair share of taxes.

You could always move to Ohio, and live in a Bohnerville. But if you want good roads and infrastructure, you gotta pay for their upkeep.

dude

income tax is merely one of the many taxes paid. Il has lower income tax but higher property and sales taxes, and we are innundated with fees

it now costs 100 bucks a year just to put a plate on a car.

WI has a much higher income tax but almost no fees, and lower property taxes

pick your poison, but its shit to fee the hell out of us, then raise taxes anyways.

quinns bitch ass restarted a ton of programs the state shutdown due to no $$ and now is begging for $$ from us

sure income tax is higher in other states. but fuck we get nailed with fee's on everything, high property tax (and little to show for it), high sales taxes and crappy roads.

lets not get into the toll roads that were supposed to be paid off. Chicago selling the rights to parking meters (just to have the company jack prices up) and lets not get into how poor the schools are..

hell i would move in a heart beat if i could.

Spare a thought for the British: all prices are in the currency stated.

currently at least $1.94 a litre for petrol more for diesel (approx £50 in every £70 goes to the government in tax)
Avg $4.81 for a large Beer in a bar
Avg $10.10 for a 20 pack of cigs
20% Sales tax
22% Income Tax for average earner up to 50% for top earners
12% National Insurance for stuff we are now having to subsidise by paying more each time we go such as dentistry
Congestion Charging Zones for Cars costing $16 just to drive in to the city and probably similar to park.
$400 a year tax for a car that is on the road even if you dont use it - many car cost much more.
Car Insurance is per driver and a new driver (17+) can expect to pay close to $4000 dollars for a old nissan Micra 1.0 per year. (I am 31 - no accidents - no claims - no convictions yet I have to pay $1400 for a 2002 BMW 330Ci Convertible.
Gas & Elec bill average over $2000 even though many house are no bigger than most american ground floors in area.
Toll Roads are in Use and likely to Expand
Expensive, disjointed, dysfunctional public transport

So many bad points plus crap weather! Think yourselves lucky. And if you think you live with lowlife scum them google Jeremy Kyle on Youtube and that's some of the type we have to deal with.

Yeah, good roads and Illinois are not usually used in the same sentence. Even LL didn't use them both in a sentence, the fact that it was implied speaks volumes.

What does "fair share" of taxes even mean? If I pay x amount in taxes, and the politicians mismanage the budget year after year, along with the salaries, pensions, and projects, thereby jacking things up even further...

...when the situation finally reaches a head, and their continued and complete F'ups and dishonesty require sh1ttons of $$,$$$,$$$,$$$.$$, all of a sudden the public isn't paying their "fair share"?!?!?!?

Seriously: How totally and completely retarded - and I truly mean that - does one have to be to even think that, let alone state it????

It's like.....

The Global recession is basically the governments doing an economic correction because too many ppl were gaining too much money and big business doesn't like that. Blame it on the banks or who you like, but one thing is sure and that is the governments were complicit and are only too happy to "bail" out the cause and punish the financiers

He's committed. He sees a road eat up with potholes but located in a high tax, Democrat-ruled state as automatically better than an equivalent road in a low tax, Republican-governed state, even if the latter has few or no potholes. They are noble potholes, symbols of how much Democrats care.

The legislation will include the roll back provision for most of the increase, with the rate settling around 3.75% after the 4 year period. so 3% to 5.25ish% for 4 years then down to 3.75%. There is no way a bill would get enough backing to pass if the 5.25% was permanent.

You mean like the sales tax hike in NJ from 6% to 7% to help pay for property tax rebates to seniors and couples making < $125k per year? Rebates terminated after 1 year, 7% sales tax has remained.

Millionaires tax on couples making over $400k that was only supposed to be temporary too, and was extended by Corzine (*shocker*) until Christie was elected and let it expire thank God.

Or perhaps the 75% rise in overall NJ property and income taxes in the 10 years McGreevy and Corzine held office, while $70 billion in wealth left the state to retire in the South leaving the rest of us to pay the higher bills.

Yeah, welcome to NJ...err, Illinois

The prospects for the package passing as is already seem to be dicey. If the majority of the increase isn't specifically sunset in the legislation after the 4 years the plan is dead in the water.

After Quinn's term I think it is very probable that the Governor's office will flip over to the Republicans and any extension would essentially be DOA unless it came with a veto proof majority.

You should give me a thumbs up. Someone needs to pay for your social services.

I'm kind of hoping that a "Republican Death Panel" (you know, like the one Dave made up and lied about here and doesn't have the guts to answer for: http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=30899675&postcount=31 ) denies him social services.

This thread makes me glad I live in Indiana, one of the few fiscally responsible states where the governor isn't afraid to cut spending.

... and yet the fools in IL will still continue to elect the idiots who do nothing but spend and waste, then raise taxes. Sigh.

The largest chunk of the problem is coming from the pension systems. Pretty much every state/city in the country is having to deal with this (or pretend it doesn't exist in the case of CA).

That upkeep should not have to include very sweet pension packages for state employees.

I don't think the OP has an issue with paying taxes. However, it appears he lives in a state that has been fiscally irresponsible. His taxes are being raised not to assist with infrastructure (police, bridge repair, etc) but rather to compensate for poor fiscal management. His taxes are being raised to pay debt owed by the state.

Lets look at an example at the city level. I pay $400 year in city taxes. If my house catches fire, I can dial 911 and a city firefighting crew will come to assist. I have no problem with this. Now lets say my city went and bought cars for each of the city employees to use for personal needs. Then there is a budget shortfall. The city must raise my taxes to $450 to cover the cost of all the cars, insurance, leases, etc. Now I begin to bitch about taxes being raised. And people on the forums say... well you like roads and city services like the police don't you?

It is not an issue with paying taxes. Same thing on the federal level. It is being upset with the poor management of taxpayer money.

exactly.

also we have huge FEES on everything. you name it there is a fee with it. not to mention high property tax's and little to show for them.

Il wouldn't be so fucked up if not for the people running it. it has been so mishandled its amazing.

Also they think IL=chicago area. anything in the southern part of the state is fucked. they have the same high tax's and NOTHING to show for it.

The property taxes on my (standard) 1/4 acre lot are over $8,000 a year. And my town does not even plow the streets unless there's over 6" of snow.

{edit}: More than 60 percent of moves in N.J. are people leaving the state
