Illusion: This picture totally freaked me out! *Confirmed* **With Pics!**

Ummmmmmm? Maybe im seeing the illusion, but the greys look the same to me......and how do you ***confirm*** it anyways?


When I open it up in photoshop and use the eyedropper to compare the colors they show up as the same.......wow.... freaky!

They really look the same to you? Square "A" looks very much darker than "B" to me, but when I cut "A" out and put it next to "B" they were the same color.

Odd. When I do the same thing in Photoshop, I see 2 slightly different colors. Ever soooo slightly though.

Because of the surrounding white squars around A.

Since the picture is presented as a 3-D slice of reality, that's how we see it. The green cylinder is not actually casting a shadow across the board. We knows this, but we can't help ourselves from seeing it that way. We have certain instructions built in that help us determine what color things are in different lighting. Since we perceive the picture as a scene with different lighting patterns we trick ourselves into seeing different colors.

i dont quite understand what u have demonstrated there n00b. Also to me I still think A and B have different shades of grey.

I can almost convince myself that they are the same color. I can get squar b to seem darker than it first appeared, but not all the way.

trying to demostrate that if you put shade A of grey next to white it will look darker than if you were to put shade A of grey next to black.

I find that at once interesting, confusing and mildly disturbing.... It's 6th grade all over again.... "What if green weren't reaaalllllyyy green..."
