Hey Guys,
I just started working out full time on monday, it was my first time going to the gym for real to do some weights and such. i am going to go every day every week for atleast 1 hour. i am about 5'4, 18 and about 220-230 lbs. when went monday for the first time, i took 10lb dumb bells and did 10 reps each. then i did 20lb and 10 rep each. after that i did 10 rep of 20 each for foream, in the I position. after that i worked my back with a single 20lb for like 5 reps.
after all that i pulled about 110, and 3 rep each until i got to 50. i did numerous things, like the overhead bar (idk what its called, but you push up) and did about 110lb and about 10 rep. today i went and did mostly leg stuff, i started out in the beginning with the 20s and such. i did a leg pivot, with 90lb for 10 reps. after that i went and did the leg press, and being first time, i had no idea what to do. well i ended up starting out with 200lb with 20 rep, that was easy, so i then got up to 330 lb with 20 rep, that was my max, and for first time, i dont know how good it is. im trying to lose weight and get stronger, so far i am liking it and getting used to it
what you guys think how i am fairing, good or bad ?
thanks !

Don't try to cram everything into one big work out. Develop a routine and target certain groups every day. If you're too lazy or new then go here. Cross reference that with this.. In addition, add more rest days, they are very important for weight training. Lastly, don't ignore the cardio or the diet or you could die; I'll kill you if you ignore them.

Feel free to ignore any or all of my advice if someone who knows what their talking about chimes in. I don't claim to know anything other than more than you.

Sorry, but you don't want to go every day of every week, your muscles need time to recover so make sure you take at least 2 days off a week (every other day works well as well)

Cardio is great, but you need to throw in some resistance training to not get too skinny.

You are stronger than me, right now I am up to doing 4-5 sets of 120 lbs and doing 4-5 sets of arm curls @ 30lbs

Fixed.

Yeah, truth. I cut out all fast food and all snacking AND starting working out 4 times a week and was wondering was I was feeling so tired all the time until I realize I took my body from 4k calories a day to 2kish and was exercising more than I had ever been. So now I added the calories (still cut out the fast food crap and snacking though) and I eat more meals per day.

I've mentioned it a million times, but Fitday is an invaluable resource for tracking one's diet.

Others already mentioned what I would say - you need to define what your goals are. Simply lifting won't help you lose much weight. You should target different muscle groups each day so that you don't end up damaging yourself.

If you just want to lose weight, start doing cardio every other day and lift the on the other days.

Cardio is great, but you need to throw in some resistance training so you don't become the skinny-fat guy and also to increase your resting metaoblism.

fixed again

To OP - keep it simple. Don't waste your time on forearm curls, 8 sets of calf raises, tons of concentration curls, etc.

Day 1:
Bench Press
Pushups
Tricep push/pull down

Day 2:
Pulldowns / PullUps (assisted to start with)
Deadlift (if you trust your form otherwise you could hurt yourself)
Barbell/Dumbell curls

Day 3:
Military Press
Squats
Good mornings

That's it. Try to get working out 4-5 days a week. Get some cardio in.

Diet is probably the most important thing.

Good beginners routine. As far as cardio goes, I would have to recommend jumping rope. I think everyone should jump rope because you can control the intensity and it's a decent way to have your heart rate stay consistently high. Probably most important is the increased balance, coordination, and agility you get from it.

Damnit! Fitday says that on a day I go the gym, I burn something like 4600 calories that day. That can't be right, my weight is pretty solid, no major loss or anything, and I"m pretty sure I don't eat more than 3500 a day.

Don't pay attention to Fitday's activity calorie estimates. They will vary widely from person to person. Just focus on what you can track - what you eat, and your weight each morning.

Agreed, keep it simple. Only extra thing I'd add is dips
