I got my 3Ghz P4 up to 3.2 It wont let me go any higher at the moment, I need faster RAM, I could try uping the votage on the CPU, but I want to try the RAM frist no use risking frying the CPU if all i need is faster RAM.

As for Oc'ing a P4 you have to up the Frontside bus, only way to do it.

Well, I have a P4 And it is locked in the bios but I have a nifty lil program from MSI called Corecell, and this program will increase the FSB by one until it detects system instability or restarts in that case it sets back a tad, and will use the maximum amount with the least system take performance drain, but that is auto, it lets you do it manually to, you can also change the fan speeds, overclock the ram and more plus you can set warnings etc, but I did alot of research before I went with a P4, and made sure I can overclock the processor and the ram, thats why i went with an MSI Corecell, p4 865 pe mobo. do you.. have an MSI board?

Have you installed the Sentances plugin yet? I've heard it's quite useful.

no i don't

I don't recall Willamettes being much for overclocking. You don't really need any programs, you can change the FSB yourself in the BIOS.

i changed the fsb in my bios and i only get a 100 mhz increase. I need a little more than that.
Do you have any ideas

Your stock FSB is 100 quad pumped and referred to as 400.
Your multiplier is 17. 17 X 100 = 1.7Ghz, your stock CPU speed.

If you got the FSB up to say 110, then you'd have 110 X 17 or 1.87Ghz overclocked CPU speed.
If you managed 125, you'd have 125 X 17 or 2.125Ghz overclocked CPU speed.

If you mean the CPU is only 100mhz faster then you only got your FSB up to about 105 or so.

You may need faster memory, or you may need to see if your board has the ability to lock the PCI/AGP bus at 33/66mhz. You could also try increasing the Vcore to the chip in the smallest increment possible, to see if that helps. You can also try to increase the voltage to the ram a tiny bit, if the board supports any of this stuff.

Do you know what board it is?

A 1.7ghz P4 is a williamette anyway, even overclocking it won't give you much of a performance gain. The williamette core was the original P4. My P3 system ran faster than my 1.8ghz williamette. Anyway, what motherboard do you have, power supply? Ram? Can't help you much without any details about what you have to work with......

well since you have PC2700 DDR you should be able to overlock the chip without overclocking the ram. But you still left out what motherboard you are using..just increase the FSB slowly up to about 133mhz, and see how it goes.

i dont think its very popular, because i can't find any information on it.

the problem is i can only take it straight to 133mhz.

yeah, that motherboard doesn't give any real overclocking options. Have you tried it at 133mhz FSB? It may run fine at that speed..

Seriously, I'd drop a Northwood in there. It'll be way faster. The board supports the 533bus "B" Northwoods up to 2.8Ghz. You'll have to manually set the FSB to 133, which you just did.

Didn't you have another thread on this, and i told you it was because your P4 was locked? But you were pretty adamant that it wasn't.

the reason why i have a thread on this was because i was trying to figure out if p4's could unlock or not.
