and what it meant for humanity going forward

It's like a lot of endings. When it happened, it was "a thing" and a lot of hyperbole was involved.

It wasn't the best finale, or the worst. It more or less fit the tone of the show, with at least some resolution.

I would guess the finale would sit better with viewers now than it did at the time.

When the show ended I kinda didn't know what to look forward to on TV for awhile. The ending is ok, not spectacular, but sufficient. The worst part about it is that many had predicted it way back in Season 1. Not myself though, I didn't start watching it until the Finale of Season 2(IIRC).

most amazing show until season 4. the last 3 seasons aren't even close. i had the same feeling when i found out the "monsters" in The Village weren't real.

I watched it. I enjoyed it for the most part. Not sure if I would watch it through again, though. It really got completely silly in the last four or five seasons of the run.

I am currently re-watching and plan to stop when they find the old monastery thing in the woods. Went from dumb to stupid right there. Before that it was very compelling though.
