Yea but you still paid $60 for something...not sure how that gamers club thing works. I don't buy many games at best buy so I don't buy into that option. I'm only paying $30 for the game so either way I had a gift card from a trade in.
Yeah $60 + $60 = $120 - 20% = $96. So unless you only buy games at BB I think it's a waste.
I got this for $10 anyhow cause I traded in my Gamestop points which gave me $50. I never use those points.
I paid $60 for the right to 20% off every new game I get for the next 2 years, and 10% off every used game (which GameStop already offers, but Best Buy's prices seem about $5 cheaper on some games). To pay off that $60 for the membership, I must buy a total of 5 games over the next 2 years new.
Just this week, I might end up getting:
Watch Dogs--Save $12
Mario Kart 8--Save $12
Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze--Save $10
So, by the weekend, I might have saved myself $34, or a bit more than half of the membership price.
Now, add in the other games I will probably get this year:
Destiny--Save $12
Sunset Overdrive--Save $12
Evolve--Save $12
NBA 2K15--Save $12
Halo Xbox One collection--Save $12+ (I'm thinking the compilation might be more than the normal $60)
The means that there's a near-certainty that I will save $94 by the end of the year.
Now, add the games I MIGHT get late in the year (depending on how they look):
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor--Save $12
Disney Infinity 2.0--Save $15 (assuming it's $75 like its predecessor)
Forza Horizon 2 OR
The Crew--Save $12
That's a potential $140 or so I could save by the end of the year. When you add in the likely 2015 releases (
Dying Light,
The Division,
Quantum Break,
Halo 5, etc.), you'd probably push $200+ in savings.
Now, I'm not one to buy from Best Buy much, nor am I one to buy many games (I haven't purchased a retail title for myself since the 360
MLB 2K12/
NBA 2K12 combo pack in Spring 2012), but there are a lot of intriguing titles coming during these next 2 years on the One. Best Buy's giving me 20% off for 2 years though, which means the launch day price of these games will be in the ballpark of the first major sale after a couple of months.
On top of that, I put the sub on my dad's Best Buy account. That means that every game my little brothers want gets discounted as well (20% new, 10% used).
Pokemon goes from $40 each to $32 each, as does every other 3DS release. My brother-in-law is looking at a One this summer, and he'd similarly save 10-20% on every purchase he made in the next 2 years, by giving my dad's phone number.
If you're an occasional gamer, or one who plays a single game for several months, it's maybe not for you. However, the ability to easily share 20% off new games with family for 2 years? That's going to pay for itself in 6 months, and I get it for 2 years. I'll bet that when the 2-year sub is up, the combined savings will be 5 times it. Really, it's such a good deal that I debated buying 2 subs, and getting a 4-year sub as a result.
