I made it to 3.4 ghz.
my system runs stable and smooth
but orthos only runs for 4 seconds?
I have an evga 680i motherboard and the bios are fully updated.

This is my setup:

thermaltake armor jr. case black
ocz 700w power supply
evga nvidia 680i sli motherboard
intel core 2 duo e6400
zalman 9500 cooler
ocz high performance gold ddr2 5400= 667mhz speed
western digital 250 gb and a 500gb sata harddrives
creative labs x-fi soundcard
PNY 7900gs graphics card
plextor 716a dvd drive
lite-on dvd drive

Here are my bios readings:

Cpu Freq, mhz= 3410.0
Fsb memory clock mode= unlinked
Fsb (Qdr),mhz= 1705
Mem (DDR),mhz= 800 [799.2) 5 5 5 15 1T

advanced memory settings TRRD=4 TRC= 23 TWR= 5 TWTR=9 TREF= 7.8 US

CPU core 1.45v
CPU FSB 1.4v
NFORCE SPP= 1.4v

I originally made it to 3.4ghz but it wouldn't boot to windows with my stock ram
timings of 667 mhz 4 4 4 12...stock 1.8v.
But when I overclocked my ram to 800 mhz..it would not boot with timings of 4 4 4 12.
So I upped the memory voltage to 2.1 and changed the timings to 5 5 5 15.
Now it boots to windows but orthos only runs for 4 seconds?

What am I doing wrong?
What should I change?

your mem is rated for ddr2-667 or 333 mhz. you are trying to run 400 mhz.

i'm not sure how good that mem is but you're really pushing it (assuming it's not d9's or fatbodies).

change from 1T to 2T.

if that doesn't try, try to run your mem at a lower speed than ddr2-800 since you have the unlinked option and can run your mem slower than 1:1.

Why not drop your RAM back to 667 mhz, 4 4 4 12 with your current vdimm and see how that works out? Or 667 mhz, 5 5 5 15? Granted, you won't get great memory bandwidth that way, but it seems your RAM has limited overclocking potential at the vdimm settings you're using. 800 mhz, 5 5 5 15 or better may require more vdimm.

get faster rate ram, right now your fsb is 425mhz and even if your ram is at ddr-800 the ratio is still lower that 1:1. Try to get ram that can overclock to atleast 1:1 or even better 4:5, that seems to give the best performance/stability results

Thanks for the help guys!!
Well i took your suggestion and did what you said.
I have admitted defeat....there is no way that I'm going to make 3.4ghz without
buying new 800mhz ram.
Now I have another problem...

After setting the bios my computer booted to a black screen..and shut off.
I rebooted into bios and my original setting were gone. The lcd number panel in my mb
read 52.I called evga and the guy told me that my board was faulty and there was nothing that could be done.He said he would send me a new mb..then he gave me 8 different prices on rma shipping. The guy didnt know his stuff so I followed my gut..

I configured the board back to factory settings.....and was up and running again
(maybe I should work for evga????).Now when I overclock...I cant reach 3.2ghz???
My system clocked to 3.2 with ease before..

Now each time that I overclock my max setting gets lower and lower....
I'm at 2.9ghz now on a chip that easily reached 3.3ghz???

Whats the problem???Is it my memory or my motherboard???
I even reinstalled my operating system to see if there where any changes..but no....

Help!!!I wont get greedy again...I just want my old 3.2 ghz back.

Should I send my motherboard back????
