i'm buying c&c: renegade from gogamer.com and i think i'm gonna get one more game since it's pretty cheap.
i havn't been reading game reviews because i've been so busy with school and finals. but since it's over now i have so much free time and i'd like
to play some pc games over the summer.
what are some kewl games to buy? i already have counter strike and c&c so no more RTS or first person shooter games...maybe some adventure/role playing games?
any recommendations?

Ever Quest is the best Role Play game I have played. But it has a monthly subscription fee of $12. Like most games it has a period of tedious repetition, but once you have your character developing the way you want, BEWARE!!!! YOU WILL BECOME AN ADDICT. and then your summer will be over, and you will not have a tan.

If you have any questions about it, I would be happy to answer them.

Half-Life!!!!!

Half-Life is like 3 years old and it's still kickin major a$$
-the modifications are just awsome such as Team Fortress Classis like i play, in that you can be 1 of 9 classes each of which has different life, different weapons and can do different things.
-then there is Counter-Strike mod which is just rammed up the butt full of cheaters but it has 50,000 clients always and it has over 10,000 dedicated servers running 24/7.
-people always say that Half-Life has the best SDK by far because everything is so open sourced about it. people make modifications so you can spawn with different amounts of life or run faster or buy guns with credits collected after killing enemies or things like being able to vote for the next map and
-Half-Life has an abundance of bot programs wheras games like Quake and UT only have 1 bot program and it's made by the company instead of bot enthusiests.
-Half-Life server are VERY easy to setup, both Windows and Linux/BSD/Solaris can run dedicated servers.
-Half-Life works great through Linux with Wine, my friend plays HL through Wine and he gets incredible FPS and smoothness. i think there is a Linux distro of HL but i'm not sure.

no more RTS or first person shooter games

well....I was gonna recommend MOHAA, but, it's FPS. I loved the game, and am not a FPS player.

since you mentioned www.gogamer.com, I'm presently playing Fallout: Tactics that I got from them. Well worth the price, IMO. It's a turn based strategy, or you can play it continuous (non-turn based).

I would also have to say Shogun: Total War, Warlord Edition. A Risk-type of strategy map, then real time battles. Battles are not like RTS games.

Normally, I check www.gamespot.com for reviews before I buy a game, but it seems to be down at this time.

I poated a threaad a while back about which games to buy in the "bargain bin". I compiled a list in alphabetical order no less.

Age of Empires 2(AoE is good too, but suffers from poor pathing and poor AI)) RTS
Close Combat II: A Bridge Too Far If you like WWII land combat,
Command and Conquer Red Alert Series. I think they've got bargains on a Red Alert series pack. RTS
Crusader (No Remorse and No Regret) FPS
Deus Ex is great, sort of a thinking man's FPS.
Dues Ex was possibly one of the top three PC games ever created
Duke Nukem 3D (Hail to the King, Baby!) FPS
Dungeon Siege
Fallout (1 & 2) RPG
Freedom Force is outstanding, a superhero RTS.
Full Throttle - Adventure
Giants Citizan Kabuto
Grim Fandango - Adventure
Half Life (YOU MUST GET THIS GAME)
Homeworld (GREAT GAME)
Max Payne is great, think the Matrix as a game. Real cool.
Mech Warrior 3
Monkey Island (any) - Adventure
No One Lives Forever is a great first-person shooter. And it's pretty funny, too
Outlaws FPS
Planetscape Torment RPG
Quake II
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Serious Sam is a classic already
Settlers 2 or 3 RTS
Shogo MAD FPS
Sin FPS
Star Craft
StarCraft (Battle Chest) RTS
System Shock 2 FPS
Thief II - a great sneaker.
Total Annihilation RTS
Total Annihilation RTS
Undying (especially with a set of good headphones) is still the best aureal game ever made
Undying (FPS)Best use of the UT engine I've seen....
Unreal FPS
Unreal Tournament

UT baby! and UT2003 when it comes out soon!

Read his post...he said he doesn't want any first person shooter games. That said, I too reccomend Morrowind, as long as your system can handle it.

Adding a second voice for EQ. Single most addicting experience in my life. I'm on Prexus Server under same name as I post here. If you decide to get it, and choose Prexus server, just type "/t Xirys I'm from Anandtech." without the quotes, and I'll help get you going on your way.

GTA3 has got to be one of the most addicting games... it's very open ended and fun to play. MY personal favorite so far is stealing the fire engine and sniping people from the roof tops. Duke Nukem Manhattan Project is hilarious... only $25 but very amusing, and suprisingly great graphics... a throw back kind of game. Another recent favorite for me was Dungeon Siege... took me awhile to apreciate it but it's a much more developed and better looking Diablo2 type game.

Neverwinter nights comes out pretty soon and looks awesome.

Morrowind is a lot of fun if you are willing to put a lot of time into it.
