I'm curious, why are people waiting in lines for 12+ hours for a chance to buy a PS3?

I'll be out there with a few buddies to hopefully pick up some for eBay. College isn't free. Plus it would be nice to make enough to buy a Wii and some games two days later

What I don't understand is why Sony (and MS and Nintendo) doesn't set the initial price at say, 10x or 20x the planned price.

Then they can drop the price in 3-6mo's when supply picks up.

Stores can offer no-refund policy only exchange for another (like they do on games), so, folks that want to buy and get a price match can suck it.

Or why not just have a direct deal with Ebay & amazon or something for the first ### units or something, then distribute them to stores afterwards.


Whatever, I'm not buying any so no loss here. Good luck to those looking to score.

I wouldn't say 12 hours is that bad. It's the people waiting days that need help. Hell, I'm going to wait 2-3 on black friday just for some computer crap I can get any day.

Because that would SERIOUSLY p!ss off their customers that they paid 5-10-20x the original price and it drops a lot later. You don't want to p!ss off your customer base that should later by at least 5x games over the life time of the PS3 at the very minimum.

I am not waiting in line but I would pay a bit more to play it sooner then the March release time it is slated for in the UK. But non of the games launch games look interesting. Roll on GTHD
