khtm - if you don't get the point removed from your record by driving school or court, then yes, your rates go up. At least they do here in California. Insurance sux0rs here.

HydroStream6 - if you do decide to go to court, try the following if you want to be combative:
Gittyup is right on the money -Have them supply the following to validate your ticket:

1. Calibration records of said radar gun (must be calibrated EVERY 24 hours)
2. Calibration record of street (all streets must be calibrated to radar every 5 years)
3. Training verification for officer
4. If officer paced you, have them supply a speedometer calibration record.
5. Verify that there were no cars within 100 feet of you at the time

Also check your state's laws/statutes on radar gun use - in CA, unless certain provisions are made radar / laser cannot be used on streets wider than 40 feet (>2 lanes)

<< Viper, I think your rate is that excessive primarily because of the wreck, and not the speeding ticket. Like I said before, my rates have never gone up with the tickets I've received.

What were the tickets for? How far apart did you get them?

I dare you to call up your insurance company & tell them to check your DMV record again to make sure your rates are accurate.

It's really not a big deal, man. And this won't be your last ticket.

I've gotten a few tickets in New Yor State. One for 77 in a 55 like yourself.
Fill out the "not guilty" part. They'll send somthing to you telling you when to go to court. You may want to call and verify and check the times and such.
Go to court. They will have you talk to the officer or the prosecutor before the trial (there will be a line). He'll probably give you a parking ticket or something (I had to pay 150 for mine). Depending on where you got stopped, you may have to take a class for like 3 hours. It's like 2 points on your insurance. Your rates shouldnt go up until you get 4 points.

Fight it...
When u take it to the court they usually reduce the points as well as the fine.
I live in NJ, got a ticket 55 on 35 - I took a court date and got it reduced to 2pts from 4 which reduced the fine inturn. If u don't fight it u will be making a big mistake. U don't even have to get a lawyer. All it takes is a few hours of yr time - depending on the courthouse.
Good Luck!

Well I told my father... and he wasn't as pissed as I thought. He just said it's my problem and I'll have to deal with it. So what I plan on doing is pleaing not guilty, then go to the court on my date and hopefully it will at least get dropped down to a 4 or even a 2 point conviction. As it stands, 22mph would be 6 points. Hopefully I'll get it dropped down, then pay the fine, and take the class to get the points dropped.

A lesson learned... I won't speed anymore... just ain't worth it.

pay for the ticket. I got pulled pver for riding my bike with no headlight at night. $45. crazy stuff. It's a speed bike, not a motor bike

If you plead guilty you will LOSE the option to take traffic school. You either fight it all the way down, or you opt for traffic school up front.

And you're right, speeding isn't worth it.

fighting it is lame -- just take responsibility for your actions and don't do it again

Here in northern California, People were getting cuffed and send to jail for not paying their tickets or not attending court when they're call for. Mostly were drunk drivers. I think they deserve it though. these people are endangering their community and its people, they should be put away if they drink and drive. Ranting sorry. Going back to your case. Just pay it and remember not to speed. If by any chance you weren't speeding and the cops pull you over then go to court and fight it. I have seen too many cars flip over in Hwys here in California to keep myself from speeding. I so happend to witness a truck fliped over and the driver was stuck inside the car<---very ugly.

Viper, amnesiac 2.0,

<< What were the tickets for? How far apart did you get them? >>

- One ticket for speeding ($173) - August 2000.
- One ticket for passing 6 cars on a double solid line ($86) - April 2001
- One ticket for driving in a HOV lane by myself. ($86) - October 2001

I live in Canada, so there's no DMV

I just renewed my insurance and I'm still at 30% discount. I pay about $950/year for insurance (cdn.)

I almost got one going home last week. I think it would have been about 75 9n a 65. I don't know because he stopped the guy next to me. There's a reason i avoid the fast lane like the plaque(sp?), and this is why.

Two things for you to do. #1 is to tell your dad. #2 is try to get out of the ticket. If nothing else see if you can use a prayer for judgement. You don't need a lawyer for this, and it basically keeps the ticket in limbo for three years. If you don't get anymore tickets during that time it's dropped altogether. But if you do, it can be brought back up against you. And you only get one of these per household every three years.

Its going to cost you ~$100 and you will have to attend a driving school.

I got pulled over for doing a 75 in a 55 on the I-90 in Cheektowaga.

They should reduce it to a parking ticket so it will not affect your record.

The worst is when it is a car full of young people...you know high schoolers and such. I seen just recently 4 teenage girls died when the teen driver swirved (sp?) at an accessive speed and killed her friends.....it just isn't worth it.

Anyway good job on telling your dad, see he wasn't as pissed as you thought he was gonna be. Being a parent I am trying desparately to teach my kid to always tell me the truth..because not knowing the truth is so much more worse than whatever it is you are trying to hide...unless it is like, killing somebody

Now go take care of your business without losing your driving privledges....good luck!
