I thrived on being a smart, level-headed guy that the ladies would want and the guys would all like. I found temporary satisfaction when I would date a girl for a while or be the popular guy, but at the end of the day, I still felt empty inside; unfulfilled. I turned to pornograhy to satisfy myself - again leaving my unfulfilled. I also went to church every Sunday where I went through the motions - these didn't satisfy me either. Sadly, I no real purpose in my life. Your "purpose" in life seems to be largely filled with gaming. While our passions/purposes aren't too similar, we have this in common - we both desired to satisfy something deep within us.

This church I went to was one that was bent around rules and traditions. Most of the people at this church were a bunch of hypocrites (I definately fit right in ) While attending, I heard various bits and pieces about Jesus. I heard that He was actually God in the flesh. I heard every Sunday that He came, lived a perfect, sinless life, and died on a cross for my sins. I heard that he rose from the dead! However, I never learned from this church how this Jesus guy really applied to me, or why he died for my sins. One day, a friend of mine invited me to their church. I went. I was blown away by what I saw. The people at this church had something radically, yet subtly, different about them than the people at my church. I kept attending because of my curiosity. Plus, these people seemed to genuinely love me for who I was - again, unlike the people at my church. I quickly found out, that these new people I had met had a relationship with Jesus Christ!? I learned that the Bible explains that God wants to know each of us personally! I knew my life was filled with sin (see my above "purposes/passions"). Sin is simply actions, thoughts, purposes, ect. that are against what God wants for us. I also learned that this sin had separated me from God and I deserved to be eternally separated from God because of these (hell). BUT!!!....God desires that no one (including you and me!) would go to hell. He promises that anyone who places their faith in Christ to pay for their sins will be saved from this punishment! Not only saved, but seen as totally clean before God for the rest of eternity!! This was the final piece I was missing in my bits and pieces about God I had heard at my church. So, I prayed to Jesus: I thanked God for sending Jesus to die for my sins, sincerely apologized for my sins against God, and asked Jesus to forgive my sins and to be the Lord of my life. I knew that God would do these things because he promises in the Bible to do so for anyone who will humble themselves and ask!

This was 10 years ago. At the time I began my relationship with Jesus, nothing instantly changed. However, over time, my passion and desire to satisfy myself with girls, being the popluar guy, and porn were replaced with a desire for Jesus and to glorify Him. You know what??....for the first time in my life, I had found TRUE satisfaction and fulfillment!! I know for certain that Jesus is the only answer in the entire universe for anyone to be truly satisfied. I know...I tried lots and lots of things and nothing else worked!

Well man, that's my story. Every day my life is changed and molded by my relationship with Jesus. He has changed my life and satisfied me in a way that nothing else could, or ever will. This is all really hard to communicate while typing. But I read your post and thought to myself, "I used to heading in the exact same direction as this guy." I was compelled to write you and tell you the answer that can only be found in Jesus! I hope you don't feel like I'm preachin to you. I'd like to know your thoughts about all of this Later!

wow! thx for the reply man! unfortunately, Jesus was forced on me by my mom when i was young. i was forced to goto church (luthern) and vacation bible school. when i turned 16, i told my mom enuf and no more church.

i have nothing against the church or god or anything like that, but it was being forced to go that's making me gunshy about spiritality.

so like you said, i'm seeking something more meaningful in life. Gaming (computer, online or other games) and church are out. What's left?

It's called a "God shaped hole" in your soul.

Go to church. Talk to God. He'll set you straight.

i kept on playing online games, then somthing changed after i was done with Age of Empires 2 (Age of Kings). b4 AOK, I always felt a little hollowness feeling in me, but i ignored it. But after AOK, that hollowness got to the point where i couldnt ignore it anymore. And online gaming since then wasn't as fun. i bought a gf4 4200 to play Unreal Tournament 2003. I played the demo and realized my old Radeon 32meg PCI wasn't going to cut it. The ironic part is that i bought the gf4, but never bought UT2k3. That hollowness feeling was now almost overwealming.

I then realized people who become addicted to online gaming have other problems. There's something in them that causes the addiction, as with any addiction.

I;ve since dropped online gaming and join a pool league. it's a fun league. we play to have fun, and it's not cut-throat competitive. But that hollowness feeling is still there. it's as if i'm subsitituating online gaming w/pool.

I feel like i have no aim or purpose in life.

What would you do to change this situation? of finding a purpose???

be critical about yourself. Do some soul searching.

ah..that's the key..to find something that you enjoy doing and make enuf $ to retire from it. i like reading comic books. i would love to work at a comic book store for life. but it pays squat. i can't live on that, much less retire. and all the comic book stores i know go under in 5 years or less, so owning one also doesn;t help me retire.

Games just distract from the emptiness, I figured that out too. A girl won't help you either, you'll probably just end up hurting her, I figured that one out as well. I just put in two weeks notice at my "good" office job this Friday. I do image editing/graphic design.

A few people have told me I'm crazy and that that is just life, you have to put up with an empty existance, "working a sh!t job to buy sh!t I don't need". A necessary evil they'd have you believe, you have to work an unfulfilling job so that you can retire when your life is towards it's end. I finally figured it out, they and most people in the first world are in denial. TV, movies, games, the internet, cars, all the stuff we think we need, are just distractions. Sex also ends up being a distraction.

I wish I had an answer for you because then I would have one for myself, but I don't. Ideally, you could sell/burn everything you own, travel the world, and find peace in the tropics somewhere. That's my dream

hehe..travel the world..i thought of that...But what happens when your $ runs out?

congrats on pulling the trigger and following your dreams. i wish i had the guts to quit my job and do that. so since you quit your job, what do u plan on doing? and do u have a backup plan when your $ runs out???

Assroth33 please do shut up that sh^t mouth of yours. Saying "I believe in Jesus" doesn't qualify a person to be a "Jesus freak". Its asres like you that make the world a dull and boring place to be.

It is easier just stay in the rut of being a complacent zombie, sleepwalking through life.

I think people are risk takers. We have to go out there an be daring, try new stuff, learn as much as we can. The home-work-home-shop routine is not life it is death.

i agree about it being hard to give up the MIND NUMBING security of money. yeah, it's possible when you are young. but when you are 59, your parents are dead, and have no safety net (dont get me started on welfare or the govt), then what?

i, like most people, are working and tolling thru this endless, empty life so that we have security when we are old. How to make that time between now and retirement less empty?

and is it worth it to have those last 20+ years of your life in total freedom? or have total freedom now, and work when you're old and no $ till you die?

Don't really have a backup plan. I do photography on the side, make ok money at that. Could always work part time if it came down to that. I feel like the only way I'll be able to change things for the better is without a safety net, in other words so that I have no choice.

Find some inspiration by reading about what some visionaries have done, and then try to change the world yourself.

Alternately, my friend said command and conquer: generals is really(!) good.

Or..since you said you like being addicted to things, you could start shooting h.

Agreed completely. If you hadn't done this, I would have written something along these lines. Christ loves you for who you are. You just need to allow him come into your life. It's really not hard work when you allow Christ in and let HIM make these changes for you (how to let him in? read fonzinator's experience on how he did it). Do realize that there may be hardship when you try to reach for Christ, but keep focus and you will be okay. And remember, if never hurts to try right? good luck.

I believe that a lot of people become depressed in their life and feel like there is no purpose because they don't have a good creative outlet. For me there is nothing like making up my own music on my guitar or filming and editing with my digital camcorder. For others there is writing, painting, and all sorts of things. I think humans have a need and desire to express themselves and it is really hard to find that in the workplace. Especially something like taking phone calls, where you have to stick to some guidelines and such. My advice is to find something you enjoy and can use your creativity in, for example, playing others songs is fun sometimes, but it simply cannot compare to playing something I came up with, it is infinitely more satisfying.

hm..i've wasted countless hours online gaming. so i have no idea what i'm good at since i've wasted so much time. i guess i could try alot of different things and see. but you dont usually become good at something unless you invest time and effort into it.

hm..wait..i'm doing pool. i've improved vastly since i started playing. from not knowing how to hold a stick to consistently being able to make straight shots. and i'm proud of that accomplishment.

i guess i'm seeing everything as a distraction from the emptyness. once i stop playing pool, i feel hollow again.
