There are a lot of people around here who are old enough to be an adult but still don't really have any concept of what that entails. It seems to be very pervasive in out society today. I notice it all the time. Even people in their late 30s that act like little kids when it comes to doing the things in life you are just supposed to do. They just want to do the fun things.

Yep...when you own a house, some things HAVE to be done, even when you'd rather be doing something else...so, you just get them done...and don't whine about it.

I don't think anyone requested that the managers of this building start turning off the AC on weekends in the middle of the summer.

95 degrees in NYC today. I'm in a glass office tower on the waterfront with 3 sides fully exposed to the sun and the AC is off

days like this make me pissed off that they took away our telecommuting.

It's your choice to work on the weekend...you accepted the responsibility when you accepted the job. You could have always refused to work on the weekend because there's no AC...

only insofar as I could stop working weekends by quitting my job, losing my apartment, and becoming homeless.

more realistically, it was my choice to work out of this particular office today rather than driving down the central jersey office that I usually work out of, but I was unaware of the AC condition until I arrived here. had I known ahead of time, I'd have prepared by, like, wearing shorts or bringing a fan. I've worked out of this office before, but only during the M-F work week and on those days it was an icebox, so that's what I was dressing for this morning.

either way, I think it's 100% fair game to complain about being stuck inside a 90+ degree office building for 11 hours.

Actually this would be true. Alot of buildings run on a timeclock that shutdown the plant on weekends. There could be an afterhours switch somewhere?

I lived in NY state until I was 18 in a house with no AC. I lived for a year in New Orleans where it wasn't uncommon to have the temperature and humidity both close to 100. I think I'm familiar with humidity.

People keep on saying Arizona is a dry heat, so is your oven. When you combine temperatures over 110 with the kind of sun we get here it feels ridiculously hot. Sure, your sweat dries off so you don't feel sweaty but that often means that it's hard to judge how much water you're losing. It's common for people that are unfamiliar with the heat to get incredibly dehydrated without even realizing that they've been sweating.

so yeah, there's no AC on my company's floor when there's only 1-2 people in the entire office. lol.

hah telecommuting.. I work at home everyday and there's no AC here where I'm staying. None. I sat all day in 95F heat a few days this summer. Sometimes I have conf calls and I can't have the fan going because it makes a helicopter-noise on the phone nor the windows open because I'm on a semi-big road. I literally felt like I was sitting in an oven even while topless.

Absolutely perfect temperatures over here on the other side of NY. Upper 70's most of the day. Maybe a little humid, but not too bad; 69 degrees at the moment, low in the low 60's tonight will be perfect for sleeping. Kicking back with a Blue Light, listening to a little Pink Floyd (Fearless off of Meddle) & relaxing now.

Our labs on the school campus are like this. They don't cool any of the labs, but almost every weekend you're required to be there to do some sort of project.

Some of the labs reach close to 100 with 50 people and computers packed into them.

Oh, it snows. Without it, the snowmobiles and skis would have a tough time. I just love to rub it in when people are whining about the temperature. I didn't realize it was so much warmer downstate than it is here.

I think the chemicals in the Hudson River generate heat, instead of absorbing it like the lakes

Maybe if you went swimming in the Hudson, you'd absorb enough chemicals that the temp wouldn't bother you?
