If it weren't for AT (more specifically, schizoid), I never would have met my fiancé.

Relationship Timeline

Week 1: Initial meeting at an ATOT-er's house, dating commences
Week 2: Dating continues, at the end of the week he asks me to be his girlfriend
Week 3: Intimacies and those three little words are exchanged (I've never fallen in love, ever... until him, until now)
Week 4: More dating/spending time together
Week 5: 10 days spent in New Mexico with his family (USC's Spring Break, my
first vacation from work in almost 2 years)
Week 6: He asks me to be his wife, and I accept his proposal... rings are exchanged
Week 7 (current): Plans are in the works for him to fly to Dallas with me to meet my family April 8-11... hopefully all will go well, and that my family will accept/approve of him

Are your parents traditional? I'm just wondering if they'll welcome the idea that he isn't Asian.

Congratulations to you :gift: ..... Personally, I think 6 weeks is not nearly enough time, but that's for each person to decide. If you truly feel that it's perfect and you have no doubts that it's forever, then bless ya!

I'm sure there's quite a few ATOT dorks disappointed today

I met my wife in September, we became engaged that November, and we were married the next April. She lived in Montreal, I lived in Virginia. Most people told us it wouldn't last. We will be celebrating our 19th anniversary this April. :wine:

Met end of February.
1st date March.
Engaged April.
May we went home from college for the summer - him to Oklahoma, me to Alabama.
July we saw each other for Fourth weekend.
Aug 31 married.

Went home after 1st meeting and told boyfriend of two years that I couldn't see him any more (despite the two year thing it wasn't a deep relationship) because I knew in my heart that I would marry the new guy.

Still married and very happy after many, many years. He still tells me every day how beautiful I am (although he does have an eye exam scheduled soon ), and I know that he's still the best looking guy out there (well, except maybe for Tom Cruise.)

Some things I think are keys to longevity - ability to compromise, agreement on major issues (spending, child-rearing, long-term goals, etc.), unified front always for the children, never make major decisions unilaterally.

My dad asked my mom to marry him after 3 months of dating. She finally accepted after 6 months of dating. They've been married for more than 30 years now.

You're moving very fast, that's fine.

I ask you to internalze and endeavor to remember the advice of Shakespeare:

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come:
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.

If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved

Good luck. You seem like a nice enough girl. While a number of ATers may have had success with short relationships prior to getting engaged, I'd say that's the exception and not the rule.

Regardless, congrats!

Extremely traditional, both born and raised in China. They're not thrilled he's not Chinese, but I think they can tell how happy I am and both mom and dad are making a genuine effort to at least give him a chance. He'll meet them for the first time next Wednesday.

Congrats.
I hope you at least have a long engagement.
Yes, there are people who get married shortly after meeting and have long happy marriages.
But honestly, no matter how you think you feel about this guy, you really don't know him very well yet.
Good luck to you.
